Publix has been Floridas favorite grocery chain for decades but some shoppers are turning their backs on the store after learning it donated more than half a million dollars to gubernatorial candidate Adam Putnam.
A handful of state advocacy groups have gone to social media Twitter in particular urging shoppers to "#BoycottPublix" this Memorial Day weekend.
Some people have decided to boycott the store indefinitely, or until it withdraws $670,000 it has given to Putnam, a longtime Republican politician who drew ire after he called himself "a proud NRA sellout" and opposed Floridas new, stricter gun purchasing laws in the wake of the Parkland school shooting.

The issue isn't whether one supports Putnam or DeSantis for governor...both are Republican. The issue is whether the snowflakes will succeed in hurting anyone who supports the Second Amendment.
Florida ping?
No store even close to me or I would go there for my own boycott.
So is Tampa Bay Times promoting a boycott and promoting the opposition to a candidate?
Or just “reporting” it? Hashtag, etc.
Sigh.
boycott=buycott
More coffee miss.
I hate autocorrect.
Hmmm. My local Publix is small and has a terrible parking lot, but it appears I need to start shopping there.
Suppose the Media Party gave a boycott and few participated?
She endorsed the boycott on Twitter yesterday.
I’m gonna have to go shopping more often at Publix.
In any case, other than Walmart and other neighborhood grocery stores, Publix is just about the only game in town, after Winn-Dixie went out of business.
The boycott of Publix is not going to affect the chain, since the vast majority of shoppers aren’t going to let politics affect their everyday shopping and their wallets.
The BOGOs at Publix are great.
DeSantis is pretty strong, so Putnam sounds like he needed to do something bold.
“NRA sellout” is ballsy in Florida
Publix is a first class operation. They are head and shoulders above the rest without being expensive like Whole Foods or Trader Joes. The other alternatives are Walmart, Winn Dixie, Aldi, Shop n Save or a few Albertsons. The latter will do in a pinch but I do not see this boycott lasting. Everyone I know are fiercely loyal to Publix and count me in on that one. Winn Dixie used to have a savings program on gas but that expired so theres no reason to go there anymore. Wheres the medias outcry over Netflix with Obamas signing on?
/Publix is a first class operation/
Publix is a Southern Wegmans.
Publix has never had layoffs. Great company.
Publix has been around for many decades and was the leading innovator for modern grocery stores. They were the first with electric doors and refrigerated display cases.
Publix is a very good company to work for, the stores clean and the employees courteous, but it is NOT a Wegmans...Wegmans is in it’s own category, at least as has been my experience.
I’ll be stopping by my local Publix here in the Tampa Bay area today to make a purchase and express my thanks for their 2A support.
And I will be shopping there for Memorial Day goodies.
I normally shop at Winn Dixie (cheaper), but this weekend I will make a point of shopping at Publix, and I hope to “engage” these communists.
