The IG is the prescribed manner according to the law to conduct the very investigation underway. It is not lame, it is precisely the process established in advance to do what is being done.
Is he not limited to investigating the DoJ? If so, then how does he investigate Brennan's and Clapper's shennanigans in all this?
But it’s my understanding the IG can only investigate current employees. Wouldn’t that leave Clapper, Brennan et al outside the IG?
The ig cannot talk to anyone outside of doj current employ. Hence he won’t be able to talk to Brennan, comedy, clapper, Yates, or any other fired or quit former employee.
That makes his investigation incomplete at best. That’s why it was offered up.
So yeah I say lame.
cia has their own inspector general

need a prosecutor to hold grand juries and search warrants oig’s can’t do that
Precisely -the proper way to conduct such an investigation is via the IG.
In fact, the IG should’ve been investigating these issues from the start because they themselves uncovered much of the evidence as part of their other ongoing investigations
The reason the IG has not investigated these issues is largely because Obama era rules and restriction on IG authority put in place by Eric Holder, Loretta Lynch, and Sally Yates essentially blocked the iG from investigation in those directions.
President Trump and probably Jeff Sessions are being scrupulous about two things.
The first strictly following all rules and procedures and going through all the ethics and procedural hoops in the DOJ Handbook.
Second, both Trump and Sessions have observed a strictly hands off approach on dealing with the DOJ and FBI to avoid the appearance of impropriety or abuse of power .
This is good policy when you intend to go after high level government officials for abuse of power and breaking government rules to avoid claims from the guilty that pot is calling the kettle black.
This has allowed Mueller's team and the Obama Era holdovers in DOJ and FBI to run so wild and unchecked that they have overplayed their hands by a huge margin.
Now it's Trumps turn and people are coming to the belated realization that Trump holds all the cards and that they work for Trump and that Trump ultimately has control of the process.
The Donald has never been one to shrink away from a fight and Trump is known to strike back with the speed of a Cobra when the timing is right and using overwhelming force when doing so.
