Trump and Pompeo's plan for Iran: It's risky, but it has a chance of succeeding
New York Daily News ^ | May 21, 2018 | 10:31 AM | Mark Dubowitz and Richard Goldberg

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo delivered a speech on Monday outlining President Trump's new strategy to counter the Islamic Republic of Iran: Intensify the Iranian regime's ongoing liquidity and political crisis to induce fundamental changes in behavior across a range of malign activities. In short, maximum diplomacy backed by maximum pressure.

Pompeo's speech today was a reply to the critics of the administration's Iran policy who have argued that Trump had no "Plan B" for the day after his May 8 decision to withdraw from the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement. That deal gave the Islamic Republic patient pathways to nuclear weapons, regional dominance and tens of billions of dollars to fund its dangerous and destructive conduct. The secretary of state's speech also was an invitation to Europeans, caught between an Iranian rock and a Trumpian hard place, to move beyond their disagreements over Trump's decision.

The way forward: a comprehensive approach to address what Pompeo called the "massive scope of Iranian malign behavior."

In his remarks, Pompeo outlined 12 basic requirements for Tehran to meet in any strategic agreement, including the end to all uranium enrichment and pursuit of plutonium reprocessing, "unqualified access" to all sites for UN weapons inspectors, the termination of Iran's nuclear-capable missile program, the return of all American and foreign hostages, and the cessation of support for terrorism and other aggressive conduct in the Middle East.

"Inflation has skyrocketed to over 70%, the banking sector is in crisis, and Iranians are on the streets in daily protest against the regime's economic mismanagement, gross corruption, foreign adventurism and domestic repression."

May the Mullahs fall, God willing.

We finally have a President who won’t cave to caterwauling Euroweenies.

Trump and Pompeo are exerting maximum financial leverage. They won’t fail.

Very reminiscent of Reagan and the USSR.

Pressure, pressure and more pressure.

The regime would have collapsed by now were it not for the spineless Europeans (and Obama) who are trying to save an Iran that would, eventually destroy them too. Amazing, nobody learned the lessons of WWII.

Well, I was reading the news ticker, from the BBC broadcast, today while in the gym and if what I read, was in line with what Pompeo was saying at the Heritage Foundation, it sure as hell seems like the President and SecState have a Plan B, C, D, E, F, G, .....

The Secretary didn’t seem to short on goals and it sure as hell seemed like the Iranians are about to get crushed. And, I believe Sec Pompeo used those exact words.

On a side note, I guess no one ever hears about the internal problems of country’s like Iran or any others, for that matter, unless it serves a political purpose for the Left and the Globalist trying to stir sh*t up. But, Iran has a huge heroin addiction problem. As do quite a few other ME/Islamic countries.

https://www.narconon.org/drug-information/iran-heroin-drug-addiction.html

I don’t known if or how that would play into anything in the future, but it’s not as if the entire country is made up of the “studs” from the Revolutionary Guard. While they appear to want to protest the Great Satan, I’m thinking that a significant amount of people in that country either, are too high or want to join the 21st century and rest of the world.

I’m certainly not a “muslim apologist” like the majority of the Left and the US Dept of State, but the muslim world has seen what happens. While some in Iran may be willing to take on the Great Satan, they can do that with the thought that they’ve played a role in some minor incidents and mistake those for winning battles. I’m thinking, that isn’t how it’ll play out.

We have a SecDef that probably wouldn’t have a problem wiping the Revolutionary Guard off the map. We have a SecState that probably would have no problem with any of that happening. I think Sec Pompeo’s diplomacy is a bit different than the Leftist, Progressive, Socialist, Globalist, that have been there in the past. Maybe something like......

“We’ve asked nice, we’re gonna ask you one more time. I’ll even say, Please, because I’m that kind of guy. Your answer, Sir? Oh, OK, your answer is, No. I’ll have to brief the President. Thank you and may your God have mercy on your soul because you’re about to meet him. Good day”.

Then he’ll just pass the baton to his fellow Cabinet member, Gen Mattis, and it’ll be what it’ll be.

Trump is "unrelireliable" if reliability is defined as maintaining the give-away-the-store diplomacy of 4 of the past 5 American Presidents and ignoring everything DJT has said and done.

"Reliability" is letting Angela (Stasi) Merkel shape American policy.

I don't think so. They may have backups but we may never find out about them because plan A is rolling down the rails just fine.

I agree. Folks, like those at the Daily News, continue to try and make him look incompetent when, in fact, he’s the complete opposite. Damn sure, a million miles away from their Messiah from the previous admin, who couldn’t talk to anyone without reading a script.

I’m just thinking that he’s already got stuff lined up for any contingency.

Iran is a mess. They’re so busy trying to ruin other people’s lives and countries, they don’t pay attention to their own.

They’re about to get a serious wake up call, if what I was able to read from Sec Pompeo’s speech was legit.

And they have some fine women.

Pres. Trumps plan is the exact opposite of the failure that Obama pushed through,so seems pretty likely to succeed. Anybody with a grade school education should be able to see that Obama’s plan was a complete failure like everything else he did.
