It's not only a possibility in the Hawaiian Islands.
A chain of about 40 volcanos runs along the West Coast between Canada and Mexico and all have the potential to become active. (The potential for each peak is outlined in the gallery above.)
They've all erupted at least once in the past 10,000 years and they all have a supply of magma under them.

They should name the most ancient one
Mt. Pelosi as it spews hot air, reduces visibility, creates chaos, and costs the public a whole ton of money.

It was said that if Rainier blows because of its height (14400ft), it would just leave a very big hole in the ground ... surrounding cities north to Bellingham would just disappear. Portland would be in ruins.

You mean I have to wait at least 100 years for maybe a volcano in the Lower 48 to erupt?! And maybe after 400 years it still hasn’t happened. what exactly was Mt. St. Hellens! That was during my life time. I don’t really need another one.

The Salton Buttes is a new one for me and I have lived in SoCal all my life except for the service.
To: Parley Baer
I just checked it out. It is located at the Southern end of the Salton Sea. The have geothermal activity in the area which I new about. I just did not realize the area was a volcano.

Me too. I had heard about the Salton volcano. Have been to New Mexico’s cinder cones though.
