Current and former officials apparently so fearful that an FBI informants identity and role would be outed by congressional Republicans confirmed both to the New York Times and the Washington Post in an attempt to offer their own narratives first. Both outlets offered details that readily identify the informant but do not name him, citing concerns for his safety and warnings from U.S. intelligence officials.
The details, however, match a person described in the Daily Caller as Stefan Halper, a Cambridge professor and longtime Washington, D.C. fixture who worked for three Republican administrations and has links to U.S. and British intelligence.
The Times and Post are the first outlets claiming to have confirmed his identity, and to describe him in such detail as to match the description of Halper.
The accounts also indicate the FBI lied about when they first began surveilling the Trump campaign, or might have done so, without any particular intelligence.
FBI officials have said they began investigating the Trump administration on July 31, 2016, after stolen Democratic National Committee emails were released on July 22, 2016, prompting Australian officials to come forward with information they received from Trump campaign adviser George Papadopoulos months earlier.
Officials sold this version of events last year to the Times, which wrote on December 31, 2017, in a piece titled How the Russia Inquiry Began: A Campaign Aide, Drinks and Talk of Political Dirt:
when leaked Democratic emails began appearing online, Australian officials passed the information about Mr. Papadopoulos to their American counterparts, according to four current and former American and foreign officials with direct knowledge of the Australians role.
However the problem with that account is that the FBI informant had approached Trump campaign adviser Carter Page before that email release on July 22...

This is probably why Haspel did not asnwer Rand Paul's question.....she may not know the answer fir sure but you can bet if Obama spied on more that one GOP candidate....Halper is not going to want to divulge that.
HAHAHAHA! Incredible! LOL ... wow.
If the Russians were colluding with Trump, why would they have moles in the Trump campaign? If this had any truth to it, Obama's DOJ would have spied on the HILLARY campaign to catch Russian moles. Evil Trump would have no moles, since he was colluding with them. Trump moles would do no good for Russia or Trump in their supposed "collusion". They would need to be in Hillary's camp to get any useful information for cheating.
Obviously, the Lefties are lying again.
Halper’s involvement explains some of the hysterical Never Trumpism from the GOPe foreign policy wing. The Max Boot types. I think we will find out Halper was just the tip of the iceberg. Recall at that time the bipartisan swamp establishment political assaults Trump came under. Blacklists, etc. No doubt the FBI/CIA felt they had free reign to spy on Trump.
From the article: “Some have speculated that former CIA Director John Brennan had launched a spy operation on the Trump campaign as early as April 2016, but it is not clear what might have prompted him.”
The author has a sense of humor.

The FBI mole was planted in the Trump campaign before he won the Republican nomination. Were the other Republican candidates deserving of an FBI mole in their campaigns or was Trump the only one not approved by the NWO ruling elite? Reasonable to conclude the rest were/are owned by the NWO pukes as are most in DC.
Keep in mind at that time we had the hysterical Never Trumpers in the GOP, too. Cruz’s famous Never Trump proclamation, his side piece’s Trump blacklist, a GOP foreign policy expert Trump boycott, etc.
Donald Trump announces his candidacy June 16, 2015.
This tells me that Hussein Obama weaponized the government against the GOP and its likely every GOP candidate was spied on - Cruz, Rubio, Kasich, Bush, Fiorina, all of them.
.
Halper is a fixed accessory of the “Deep State.”
He would never have made it into the campaign of an experienced elected official.
.
.
You’re hip shooting.
Halper was well known for what he was by Cruz, Rubio, Kasich and Bush.
.
Nawww, that would mean those three POS Reporters from the NY Times that came out with their spin story yesterday about the Plant are in on the lie. That just can’t be!
Really great point. If Trump, who was the least likely candidate to win the nomination, was worthy of a mole, you KNOW the others had ‘em, too. Jeb! And Cruz for sure had embedded spies if Trump had one.

Hillary rigged the DNC, controlled all the super delegates, wiretapped conversations in Trumps campaign, spent 10X what Trump spent and still lost.
Thank you Lord Jesus for blessing America with Donald J. Trump.
Clapper and his identical twin!
Thanks to Eddie01 for the above.
He is quite the portly fellow. So rotund, in fact, that I wouldn't be surprised if his body became detached from his head at the end of a rope.
Ten days ago, Nunes & Gowdy sought an audience with Trump to discuss the ‘Spy’ info, Trump instead chose to listen to Kelly and keep the info secret. That allowed to deep-state to frame the narrative. Trump lost another opportunity to go on offence, instead he demurred, and the New York Times Won. Notice Nunes has been silent since Trump left him to hang in the wind?
