Why is the NY Times outing Stefan Halper?

Damage control...Halper had previously helped “honeypot” Mike Flynn for Obama/Brennan in 2014 with Svetlana Lokhova...setting-up Papadopolous with phony email info he relayed to the Aussie Amb. was used in the FISA warrant application...
The mockingbirds already know that he's been arkancided. Now they just have to frame the dead guy in such a way that, gosh, even if he did get orders from anybody like higher up, it's too late to find out 'cause he's dead now and can't testify.
Great question...my guess is they're hoping to draw attention away from someone higher up on the food chain whose exposure would more damaging.
I had the same question why would the NYTs out Halper? The only thing that comes to mind is that the government insiders are thinking of mitigating the damage that may come from the OIG report.
Or as later reported, a case of attempted false entrapment by the dirty state.
