Alleged shooter at Texas high school spared people he liked, court document says

The teenager who allegedly used a shotgun and a revolver to kill 10 people and wound 10 others at a Texas high school Friday admitted he didn't shoot people he liked and meant to kill the ones he did target, a probable cause affidavit says.

Suspect Dimitrios Pagourtzis, 17, has cooperated with police, said Galveston County Magistrate Mark Henry said. Henry denied bail for the student, who is accused of capital murder of multiple people and aggravated assault on a public servant.

Students at Santa Fe High School, not far from Houston in southeastern Texas, scrambled for safety after they heard shots just after class began Friday morning. Nine students and one teacher were killed, a law enforcement official told CNN.

Pagourtzis said little during a video court appearance, answering "Yes, sir" when asked whether he wanted a court-appointed attorney. He was not asked to enter a plea.

The probable cause affidavit says he told an investigator he spared people he liked because he wanted his story told.

The alleged shooter used a shotgun and a .38 revolver that were legally owned by his father, Gov. Greg Abbott told reporters. Two school resource officers were on the campus and confronted the shooter "early on in the process," Abbott said.

Good post. Besides, the kid also planted bombs. If he knew what he was doing, he wouldn’t even need a gun.

.....”Forcing the owner of a firearm into liability for limiting access will render the 2nd amendment worthless just as gun bans. Conservatives jumping on this bandwagon are being absolutely foolish”......

Yes.

Ya then maybe we can hold Holly Wood action movie producers and actors liable for negligent homicide for teaching these kids how to murder people with a firearm.

Then the firearms manufactures like say Magnum Research, makers of the Desert Eagle the most prolifically used pistol in action movies can sue these movie studios for portraying their products in a bad light. These Holly Wood studios repeatedly demonstrate inappropriate and illegal use of the Desert Eagle pistol which both harms Magnum Research and greatly increases the chance their products will be used illegally.

To counter the damage done by Holly Wood studies to the image of Magnum Research products they should issue a license to the movie studios to use their products. I'm sure the price of these licenses could be very expensive and likely payable like royalties for using someones music. Cha Ching!

....”The father is partly to blame for not securing his guns”....

Wrong. The son is 17 and knew how to shoot. Likely practiced with his father. Our Family has secured weapons but it is no secret to have access if needed.

I don’t believe that for a second. The kid’s made a ‘story’ up to sell, or as he goes along, for his moment of fame, especially now that he’s met his targeted goal of killing people.

Taped together to function as an assault weapon.

Kina blows out of the water the claim that one should be 21 to purchase a firearm.

“This is Texas, they are going to kill him back.”

Nope. He’s 17. He’ll get life without parole.

I recall a poll of high school students a few years back which asked them what they wanted out of life if they could have anything. The number one answer wasn't love, education, a career, or money. It was being famous.

Because "being famous" will get you: "love," a "career," and money.*

Regards,

* Please note the quotation marks around "love" and "career."

Anyone who believes that hasn’t paid attention to news reports of the lives of the ‘famous’.

The majority of the famous people I read about are anything but happy. Their families are fractured and miserable. No love there. They often end their lives penniless and broken.

Get a grip
This is about adults - parents - securing firearms from children
Especially moody isolated voilence attracted teens

This may not be where the buck stops
But its where the buck starts

You cant pass any law on 300 million Americans that replaces careless parenting

I hold the parents as prime responsible in this case

No the shooter is totally to blame.

If he was on drugs I would assume the parents had him evaluated

In that case the guns should have been secured

I have a friend who would love to keep a gun around the house for self protection but never got one because his teen ages boys were on anti depressants

Yup. It’s hard for me to imagine anyone looking back from 2050 and deciding the 24 hour news cycle, the portable internet and smart phones, and social media was this really great thing for society.

If the shooter fits your profile (bullied, going to a shrink, taking antidepressants), then hell no the dad should not have let him near his guns.

No AR15, no Glock. That really takes the red meat out of the anti gun hysteria.

A five or six shot revolver and a shotgun, assuming pump action with what, five or six shells? Each of which takes time to reload? And no one was able to get to him while reloading?

Banning AR-15s would’a stopped that one cold! < /sarc >
