With a 5-0 vote, a Colorado city has approved an ordinance that will make it illegal to sit or lie down on downtown sidewalks, curbs or other public areas. The measure passed at the May 15, 2018 Durango City Council meeting.
The city council acted after hearing numerous complaints from business owners and visitors about people laying in the middle of the sidewalks in the downtown business district.
Exemptions include people experiencing medical emergencies, people with disabilities, children in strollers or those attending parades, festivals, performances or other special events

Yes I know. But apparently the poster I was responding to hadn’t
read the last of the three sentences posted from the article.
.....”apparently the poster hadnt

Frustrating when folks knee jerk ‘a title’ without even reading what’s there. We have a lot of ‘one liner’ responses these days.
You couldn’t read FOUR SENTENCES?
They can’t be poor someplace else?
“Im all for this. If you own a downtown small business it hurts to have bums sprawled out all over the sidewalk and parking lot of your business. It scares away customers and scares employees. They also leave an incredible amount of trash. I have to spend 10-15 minutes every morning cleaning up the trash left by the bums the night before - and theres a dumpster not 20 feet away.”
Whatever happened to laws on vagrancy with officer Clancy walking down the street twirling his billy club? Build camps already!

Durango is a beautiful town. I first visited it and Silverton in 1954.
Lived South of there in the 1970s, return every chance I get. Unfortunately, it is becoming a drug town now. Did no visit it last time as the pot smokers have taken over. Went to my OTHER favorite town, Pagosa Springs instead.
So charge the fire hose and get with it!
I saw that happen in a small city .....heck they were doing drugs in front of peoples houses. New mayor came in, hired extra police and went after every little infraction....from parking tickets, jay walking, littering, anything that generally was small stuff. He hammered the city thugs and drove the druggies out of town along with their drug pimps because they were in court fighting fines all the time..or in jail.
It was something else to watch that work.

Good thing they exempted medical emergencies. That’d be just rude to receive a summons on top of the ER and transport bill.
You’re just afraid you won’t be able to lie down and look up skirts. However, this is fruity Colorado, so that’s a man in a skirt, baby!
No. Colorado is the only place they can be poor.
And in front of your store. They can be poor there, too.
What happens if you trip and fall on the sidewalk? How many seconds do you have to get up before you have broken the law? Do you get a count of 10 like in boxing?
I think you get what they’re referencing.
