Political consulting group Cambridge Analytica used Russian researchers and shared data with companies linked to Russian intelligence, a whistleblower told a congressional hearing on interference in the 2016 US election Wednesday.
Christopher Wylie, who leaked information on the British-based firm's hijacking of data on millions of Facebook users, told a Senate panel he believes Russian intelligence services had access to data harvested by the consultancy.
Wylie told the panel that Russian-American researcher Aleksandr Kogan, who created an application to harvest Facebook user profile data, was working at the same time on Russian-funded projects, including "behavioral research."
"This means that in addition to Facebook data being accessed in Russia, there are reasonable grounds to suspect that CA may have been an intelligence target of Russian security services...(and) that Russian security services may have been notified of the existence of CA's Facebook data," Wylie said in his written testimony.
Wylie added that Cambridge Analytica "used Russian researchers to gather its data, (and) openly shared information on 'rumor campaigns' and 'attitudinal inoculation'" with companies and executives linked to the Russian intelligence agency FSB.

This information is mostly just obvious. If information is being offered for sale, of course anyone interested is going to buy it.

Most likely all of them on the entire planet..................
Note “you” is the generic “you” not anyone in particular. Here “you” is the Facebook user and potential user.
Facebook shares (sells!) data with anyone who can write a check and buy it! How do you think they make their money? You are their product! In fact you’re the best kind of product. You are your own raw material. You are a self manufacturing product! You assemble your own “data” into a marketable data package yourself by using Facebook. Then you obliging sit on their shelves (The Facebook system!) awaiting customers to come by and make a purchase. Though I really can’t jump on Facebook to hard, it’s the same to varying degrees of granularity with everything you use and do the minute you connect to the internet - think metadata, use your cell phone, drive your car (In new vehicles OnStar-or something like it! is on whether you buy it or not!). All this media (including all social media sites!) data is collated, boiled down turned into a marketing data package that represents you. It is then bid on (yes bid on!) in a real-time virtual electronic market (I can’t remember the acronym now!) and sold so whenever and wherever you sign back into the Net-Verse the right advertisement appear, tuned to have a high probability to separate you from you money.
Government (and governments!) is a bit player in all this!
This has to do with money not ideology.

Everything in your house will have a microprocessor/radio and be connected to the internet. Soon the state-of-play of your Fridge, your pantry, washer /dryer and likely bodily functions will be part of that new “marketing John/Jane Doe data package” (Particularly if this Japanese web-connected toilet catches on !)
