The Senate confirmed four of President Donald Trumps judicial nominees to federal appeals courts this week, bringing his total number of circuit court appointments to 21.
Two nominees to the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, Michael Scudder and Amy St. Eve, were confirmed on unanimous votes Monday, as they were selected in consultation with Illinois two U.S. senators, Democratic Sens. Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth. Senators generally have special prerogatives for judicial vacancies arising in their states, and the 7th Circuit is based in Chicago.
The unanimous, swift confirmations of Judges St. Eve and Scudder attest to the value of a collaborative selection process, University of Richmond School of Law professor Carl Tobias told The Daily Caller News Foundation. White House Counsel appeared to carefully consult home state Democratic Senators Durbin and Duckworth, who strongly supported the nominees.
Two experienced, mainstream individuals rapidly and smoothly joined the court and reduce its vacancies without the rancor and divisiveness that have attended other circuit nomination and confirmation processes, he added. (RELATED: Supreme Court Should Rely On Living Constitution Surveys Show)
Though neither nominee has a high profile in Washington, D.C., both are well thought of in conservative legal circles.
Scudder was a partner in the Chicago offices of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom concentrating in commercial litigation and white collar crime. He previously worked for the George W. Bush Justice Department, served as general counsel of the National Security Council, and clerked for Justice Anthony Kennedy on the U.S. Supreme Court. St. Eve was a judge on the federal trial court in Chicago. She was a federal prosecutor and worked on the Whitewater investigation prior to her appointment to the bench in 2002.

Sometimes the fact that The Obamanation of Desolation was lazy and didn’t make any nominations to fill these positions is a good thing
Unanimous consent is NOT good. Means nominee is unpredictable and manipulable to vote Left. We’ve seen this with some of Bush’s nominees, And of course, we saw how Reagan’s Justice Kennedy wrote the deciding opinion on gay marriage and abortion.
Michael Scudder, one of the two Illinois nominees, actually clerked for Kennedy.
Re: “Unanimous consent is NOT good.”
I agree.
The Always-Trumpers claim that these unanimous votes are a “tradition” when the opposing side does not have enough votes to reject the nominee.
That is incorrect.
In 2017, Trump was nominating judges without consulting the Senators, and many of his nominees had significant opposition.
In 2018, Trump started consulting the Senators, and almost all his nominees are sailing through with little or no opposition at all.
Ok so 4 gone in but how many more left to fill?
There are three nominations pending for the Ninth Circuit. I’m curious to see how that plays out.
Totally untrue. Only Scudder and St. Eve are the ones that didn't receiver 20 to 40=plus no votes from Dems for the appeals courts:

Winning! A crucial legacy which will last into future generations!
No it doesn’t. It means that the Senators are expected to vote for Senators of different States, like they do for theirs.
Yea, is that why these nominations are taking so long to clear the Senate, because they are unopposed?
Grassley gettin it done
Unfortunately at the rate that the confirmations are currently proceeding, we will be well into the second Cruz presidency before all positions are filled.
Keep this in mind, McConnell and most of the Republican senate do not want a conservative flavored judiciary all across this land any more than the Rats do.
Could also be in resignation as a done deal and why not be able to say “I voted for President Trump’s _________ “(Fill in the blank) in the future when other issues are at hand?
Thank you for posting for me!
Exactly. I’d feel much better if the Democrats were kicking and screaming and these two along with all other Trump appointees were rammed down their throats. Then I could feel confident they really were strict constructionists.
No. They just do not want to work the hours it takes to get the 30 hours per confirmation done in a reasonable time frame. Since the Dems can’t stop them they are using the only tool they have left. Require full number of hours.
If both Durbin and Dickworth agreed this is not a good candidate.

“If both Durbin and Dickworth agreed this is not a good candidate.”
Agree. Add to that unanimous confirmation. Far left Democrat senators will not vote for a truly conservative judge. The fact one judge clerked for Anthony Kennedy and worked in the George W. Bush Justice Department is not proof of conservative thinking.
Winning!
Re: “Totally untrue.”
Thanks, Kazan.
I actually looked for a comprehensive list of Trump judges before I posted, but I couldn’t find one.
LOL, perhaps the trick is to use “List Of” in my search terms?
By the way, I did not invent my original declaration out of thin air.
About six weeks ago someone posted an article here at FR after a judge was confirmed by a huge margin.
That article said the same thing I did, that when no Democrats vote against a Republican nominee, that is a grave danger signal. The article also said that Trump’s White House Counsel was now handling all judicial nominees, that the Counsel had reinstated the tradition of gaining the approval of home state Senators, and that the nominee approval process was expected to speed up considerably and with much less acrimony.
