Customers are not only paying for the coffee; they are paying for the heat and air conditioning, tables, accessible WiFi and bathrooms. Partners are paid to keep the place clean and comfortable for customers who spend literal hours studying, working, and holding meetings in the store. It seems like a fair trade to me.
It doesnt seem like a fair trade to me, however, if I pay $5 for my drink and then have to wait in line with a bunch of random tourists who just walked in wanting to use the single-family bathroom without buying anything. It also doesnt seem like a fair trade if Im paid to clean a bathroom that has been used for the wrong reasons by people who dont care about the fact that its my job to clean up after them.
I would say that I hope store managers will continue to use their best judgment with their backs turned to Starbucks new bathroom policy to decide who should and should not have access to their bathrooms, but that would probably result in another viral video, national outrage, and more policy changes.
So Ill just leave it at this: The bathroom policy should have never been altered.

THe article is worth reading....
Someone should send it to MR Schultz
And then the fact that the team members have to use those bathrooms as well. Management has downgraded their working conditions without consent or compensation.
They did the same thing with Coffee Bean where I go to. It’s ONE men/womens room where even the employees have to share with the customers. To add, even the effing homeless aholes and non paying customers use it. The traffic is because the parking lot is shared with Albertsons.
The Starbucks 2 blocks across is a different matter. The parking lot is by valet and they rudely’ kick you out if you are parked for more than an hour.
Every homeless shelter and social worker is now telling its clients that Starbucks is a go-to place for bodily needs. Before you know it, the homeless are going to be wiping themselves down and washing out their clothes in the bathrooms. Starbucks will reap what it has sown.
That's racist!
Wait until some homeless people take up homesteading in the bathroom. It’s going to be hilarious.
There is no free lunch—bathrooms included.
Has the leadership ever in their life witnessed a public bathroom where homeless people use the facilities?
I would advise them to give it a go, and then give this whole idea a rethink.
>> Partners are paid to keep the place clean and comfortable for customers
The delusional “Partner” BS doesn’t help in the reality of life.
Starbucks is so busy being politically correct that it will destroy teh company one day.
Starbucks is easy to avoid.
I like the local art and hipster cafes better anyway.
we’ve gone to the Br in a couple of different Starbucks and didn’t buy a thing...of course, we were clean, polite, and left right away...
A starbucks with valet parking?
Why in the world would anybody go to a Starbucks for anything? Their coffee is highly overpriced, not that good anyway (try to order “just coffee . . . ya’ know, normal coffee).
I don’t get it. There’re dozens of alternative places to get a “normal” coffee at half the price: McDonalds, Burger King, GetGo, etc.).
it already has. It’s a slow train wreck in motion, off the tracks and soon flipping belly up.
Employees should wash their hands before returning to work.
