In the endless search for the magic key that Democrats can use to unlock the hearts of white people who vote Republican, the hot new candidate is respect. If only they cast off their snooty liberal elitism and show respect to people who voted for Donald Trump, Democrats can win them over and take back Congress and the White House.
The assumption is that if Democrats simply choose to deploy this powerful tool of respect, then minds will be changed and votes will follow.
As a voter says in The Great Revolt, a new book by conservative journalist Salena Zito and Republican operative Brad Todd, One of the things I really dont get about the Democratic Party or the news media is the lack of respect they give to people who work hard all of their lives to get themselves out of the hole.
I despise Barack Obama. I think primarily because I dont think he thinks very much of people like me, one Republican told The Posts Dan Balz. One of the places I would agree with the hard-core Trump people, theyre tired of being treated as the enemy by Barack Obama, he went on. His comment, the whole thing, its been worn out to death, that clinging to God and guns, God and guns and afraid of people who dont look like them, blah, blah, blah. Just quit talking down to me.

How do you earn the support from those you despise in the first place . . . . .
Watching that political campaign ad by some dirtbag demoncrat who started off with “F*** the NRA”, sure showed me their level of “respect”.
Powerful liberal men with hidden door locks under their desk to trap sexual assault victims are crying about not having my respect.
O.k.
A shot at Trump is a shot at me.
Respect shown to us by these scumbags will be a moot point if all the alien invaders are expelled from our country...Then no matter how much “fake” respect they attempt to show, they will never win another election very soon...
Respect us, you deplorable 4 tooth uneducated omniphobic scum!
well said luminal. the same RINO’s and Dims that are trying to backdoor blanket amnesty under cover of darknesss
I do note that in exonerating Hillary of the accusation of disrespect he failed to mention "Basket of Deplorables", a quote that really isn't improved much by context.
These aren't one-off comments, and and they aren't rare. What Waldman and most of the rest of the DC media echo chamber fail to appreciate is that they're not living in a three-network world anymore, and that the working class doesn't depend on the town crier for news. Even those members of it who are living paycheck-to-paycheck have televisions, and it isn't isolated comments blown out of proportion that are affecting them, but a steady drumbeat of derision, mockery, and contempt that reaches them nearly 24/7 even in situation comedies and commercials. It's a torrent of hatred and it's directed at them. This isn't hard to see. And it can't be explained away by accusing largely fictive right-wing media sources of exaggeration.
So if you (sincerely or insincerely) respect normal people, they’re going to stop noticing your evil anti-freedom, anti-progress, anti-American, nanny-state, redistributive policy platform?? Good luck with that.
Cool. Let’s start with me.
I’m a straight, white, male and a proud Southerner who loves his guns.
OK lefties....let’s see you start to show me some respect for the first time.
LOLOLOLOL!!!!!! We all know there is no way in this world they can manage that on a number of levels. To them I and millions of others just like me are the antichrist simply for existing.
That’s because they are evil misanthropes, usurpers, tyrants, liars, thieves & murderers.
I really don’t GAD about “likeable” - I support candidates who do the right things for America. Of course that is also the reason why I have never voted for a Dhimmicrat.
They can play Cheshire Cat all they want and I still won’t vote for them!
The right has a gigantic media apparatus that is devoted to convincing people that liberals disrespect them .. Barack Obama. Can you think of another president who spent more time reaching out to the other side and showing respect for them? This guy is extraordinarily naive or extraordinarily delusional I cant decide.
Your posts are always so right on the money!
“A shot at Trump is a shot at me.”
You said it, FRiend! Anyone who voted for Trump has a target on their back. If they hate Trump, they hate each & every one of us who voted for him, and we should not regard the Deep State’s war against PDJT as a distant event among Washington elites. We all should be taking it personally.
One example: the masks are finally off of those who sneer “Nobody wants to take away your guns!!” More and more gungrabbers are stating baldly that what they seek is an end to private gun ownership in America.
Google “America’s love affair with guns” and see the vitriolic hate-filled sites, with calls to turn gun owners’ kids into government snitches.
Ultmately, President Trump’s fate is our fate. Think on it.
They call us Nazis, and attack us physically, and think we are going to be buds?
I have nothing but contempt for the Democrats and liberals.
I cant see mere contempt in my rear view mirror anymore.
The Left has made it quite clear that they hate me and want me dead.
They better hope and pray I dont start repaying them in kind.
See my tag line.

When I “respect” someone, I don’t try to disarm them while illegally sneaking foreigners into their house.
Thank you. I try to get to the heart of the issues, as best I can.
I don’t know what the author is smoking, but it must be some powerful stuff to produce such cluelessness. Has the author never heard of the disdain Democrats, themselves, spew at all of us: basket of deplorables, bitter clingers, white privilege, racist, homophobic, sexist, Nazi, etc. On and on it goes.
