Is this the charger that you are referring to?

You’d think that Apple would verify compatibility if they sell something on their website?

That’s one. And it meets Apple’s strict standards. However, not too long ago a survey was done of chargers and cables being sold on Amazon which claimed Apple "Made For Apple" certification, but 90% of them were counterfeit. . . Chinese look-alike knockoffs. Apple doesn’t allow anything but genuine stuff in their stores, but people look for bargains.

Thanks. Don’t know if his was counterfeit but it is a possibility.
