Did anyone happen to catch David Brooks’s latest column, “Donald Trump’s Lizard Wisdom,” in the New York Times? I about fell out of my chair, because Brooks almost tacitly admits that maybe he was wrong about Trump. Referring to Trump’s experience dealing with the mobbed-up New York construction scene in his long real estate career, Brooks says:
And yet I can’t help but wonder if that kind of background has provided a decent education for dealing with the sort of hopped-up mobsters running parts of the world today. There is growing reason to believe that Donald Trump understands the thug mind a whole lot better than the people who attended our prestigious Foreign Service academies.
The second piece of evidence is our trade talks with China. Over the past few decades, the Western diplomatic community made a big bet: If we all behaved decently toward Chinese leaders, then they’d naturally come to embrace liberal economic and cultural values and we could all eventually share a pinot at the University Club.
The bet went wrong. . . The president has pushed back harder on the Chinese and has netted some results. After some Trump swagger, Xi Jinping promised to “significantly lower” Chinese tariffs on imported vehicles. I imagine that Times readers must be freaking out about this. (I can’t find the comments section on the Times redesigned web format.) Now, Brooks is not a leftist, But Willie Brown, the legendary for speaker of the California State Assembly and mayor of San Francisco, and one of the smartest politicians in America, certainly is a leftist, and he wrote this yesterday in the San Francisco Chronicle:

I think the liberals and Deep State are still stuck on stage 2 and won’t get to stage three. Their goal now is impeaching or assassinating Trump.
I think it is because we are nearing the midterms that the coverage has changed. I assume it will go back to “normal” (hateful) after November whether we win Congress or not.
Willie Brown made it to stage five, but he is a street guy and they process grief more quickly than the pampered white folks.
Hopefully the Democratic Party will ignore Willy—and there will be more of their wailing and gnashing of teeth in 2018 and 2020.
Trump is our FDR.
He is going to re-make the country.
FDR was HATED by a lot of the country. Absolutely hated.
But his supporters quietly did their deeds.
Trump only has 8 years as president, instead of 16. However he could have 8 as vice president with a strong president who would follow him.
We could with the right tools, ie judges, appointments, and elected officials make it a conservative and successful century.
If they are successful at either, it will result in an all out war against liberals.
If their 24/7/365 trashing was working why would they change now?
By all accounts this upcoming election is the most important in history for the liberals. Their worst nightmare occurred when their “absolutely, surely can’t lose candidate” was demolished in 2016. Their next nightmare came from this President being so successful despite the very best attempts of the Left to discredit and interfere with all he tried to do in keeping his promises to the people.
Now they are seeing exposed the sordid and illegal attempts by our own Government to actually overthrow the legally elected President.
Despite all the hate and lies spewed by the Left, the Presidents approval numbers avg in the mid 40’s with some pollsters having him at 49-51.
So clearly the hate and lies is failing but the question is what do they or rather what can they do now to try and convince people Trump is a failure, etc when day by day the evidence shows he is anything but that?

Use correct terminology to talk about the enemy, not their preferred terms like liberal or progressive. they are neither

Trump will win reelection easily. And I predict there will be no “blue wave” come November.
BTW, I agree with the headline. Trump is wearing well on more and more Americans. This probably rattles the left more than anything.
Wearing well? The chicken littles of the left have been saying the sky was falling since before he was inaugurated. He’s gonna start WWIII, he’s gonna get us nuked, he’s going to destroy the stock market, he’s going to start a trade war, he’s a racist. In the meantime he has put Americans and America first, and even people who didn’t vote for him are noticing this guy is a fighter and he works to keep his promises.
You are correct about political language. Leftists, progressives, Marxists and their ilk have completely taken over the old liberal party of Democrats. There were really never very many liberals but they were respected leaders.
Today there are no liberals in the Democrat party. The Democrat party today is anti traditional America. It is vigorously anti Constitutional and radically democratic. Sadly, for them, they no longer dominate the political landscape.
A little bit of Trump goes a long way. His leavening influence is felt in every corner of our culture and it feels good. Trump is the way forward for America.
Baked into that statement is the acknowledgement the systems the Deep State / permanent State have constructed are both complex and brittle (inflexible). Complex is bad. Brittle is bad. In nature, complex/brittle systems tend to go extinct. That these Deep State systems go extinct is only cataclysmic to the Deep State.
If that doesn’t say everything you need to know about Democrats, nothing will...
For a moment I thought the RINO king Brooks was referring to Trump’s dealings with Democrats.
I believe that he will have a similar impact on our country that FDR had in the thirties and forties.
But in a better direction.
