Kshama Sawants rally March on Amazon! Tax Big Biz to Build Affordable Housing! was planned well before a committee passed a head tax on big businesses, including Amazon. The full Seattle City Council is expected to vote on the proposal on Monday.
Our message today for the council is to stay strong, Kshama Sawant one of the most vocal proponents of the tax told KTTHs Jason Rantz at the rally.
The rally on Saturday began at Seattle Central College Plaza and preceded a march to Amazons headquarters in South Lake Union. This is extortion, the events Facebook page reads, and we must stand up to [Jeff] Bezos bullying. Having made a profit of $1.6B in the first 3 months of this year, the tax will be pocket change for Amazon.
That extortion is the aforementioned threat to halt construction on two projects in the city.
Sawant has continually targeted Amazon as shes pushed for the head tax.
When the city council first began pursuing a head tax, Sawant pushed to double the proposed tax on the wealthiest 10 percent of businesses. Her reasoning: if Amazon can afford a second headquarters, it can surely pay a tax for each of its employees.
On Friday, Seattle City Councils Finance and Neighborhoods Committee voted down an amendment to the head tax that would have cut the amount businesses would have paid in half and approved the original bill that would tax big businesses $500 per employee, per year.

Lie down with the Dog, get up with the fleas Amazon.
Kshama will crap like a dog passing peach stones IF Bezos calls the bluff and moves everything out of there pronto. It doesn’t matter what Amazon makes, it’s NOT Kshama’s.
Only $20 million a year if they just tax the Seattle employees.
Capitation was the original tax contemplated by the founding fathers. “No Capitation, or other direct, Tax shall be laid, unless in Proportion to the Census or enumeration herein before directed to be taken.”
A tax easily avoided with tons of staffing agencies.
5 million per year for “administrative costs”.
Interesting thought.
What if HQ2 is really HQ New...
.
Kshama Sawant types are the new breed of Democrats. They are straight up multicultural scum Anti-American Socialists. Liberals eat their sh*t up.
“head tax”
Man, they are taxing everything these days.
Apparently the people who immigrated here from India for more opportunity brought their socialism with them. Many of them are card-carrying commies. How can people be so dumb?
That’s what’s been happening with a lot of companies, particularly those who come to Texas. So much so that it’s being called the “Texas Two-Step” - open an ‘expansion’ HQ or facility in Texas, then ‘decide’ to move the main facility or HQ to Texas for “convenience and efficiency reasons.’ Most notably, Toyota did that in fleeing from California. The CA morons derided the possibility of such a move until it happened and now they’re terrified of what it does to their tax base.
To be fair, the British spent centuries killing off Indians who weren’t that subservient and anxious to be dominated by the state.
Good point.
Amazon needs to pull a Boeing in Seattle only not take so long doing it. No fear however, Bill Gates will cover all losses. Seattle is his kind of town.

I’m having a hard time working up a lot of sympathy for Bezos or the people of Seattle.
I saw what you did there
Monica Lewinski was unavailable for comment.
If the Tax Passes and it’s made retroactive, Stormy Daniels will be Bankrupted overnight.
Amazon ain’t leaving Seattle, they’re expanding like crazy there (in addition to HQ2).
And $20 million is a mere nuisance fee to them.
Stormy Daniels should move to Seattle, she alone could support the city by charging a head tax.
Kshama Sawant is a scum Communist pure and simple. There is no limits to the mischief she has pulled in Seattle.
