Halper probably isn't the informant, since he wasn't a "mole" in the campaign. More likely, he's a CIA/FBI asset who was used to fabricate the justification for the FISA warrants by using dopes like Carter Page and George Snufflupagus or whatever his name is.
If there was an FBI mole inside the Trump campaign, I'm going to put three names out there as possibilities (based on my estimated order of likelihood):
1. Paul Manafort
2. Michael Cohen
3. Jared Kushner

From what I’ve read, if Halper is the man, he wasn’t actually embedded IN the campaign, but was trying to manipulate people - such as Papadoupolis - who were in the campaign, or on the fringes of the campaign. It sounds like he was trying to frame them or, at least, get them to perform actions or say things that would justify opening an investigation into the campaign.
