Kim Jong-uns private jets, and where he could fly them to meet Donald Trump
Having broken with his usual preference for rail travel by flying to China, the leader may be ready to hold a summit with the US farther afield and he has aircraft at his disposal

North Korean leaders usually travel by train when going overseas, but Kim Jong-un flew to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday which may broaden the choice of locations for his meeting with US President Donald Trump next month.
For his first China visit in March also his first foreign trip as leader Kim travelled on a 22-carriage armoured train moving at 60km/h, exactly as his famously aerophobic father used to.
But on Monday he flew to Chinas northeast city of Dalian, which is only 360km from Pyongyang, by air.
The North Korean Air Force One named Chammae-1, a modified Soviet-made jetliner Ilyushin Il-62M aircraft was photographed at Dalian airport.
This means that for the meeting with Trump, it would not be impossible for Kim to travel to more distant destinations by air, rather than to one of the few options accessible by train.
Kims long-haul Il-62M
The four-engine cold war legacy aircraft Il-62M has a range of about 10,000km, enabling it to make a non-stop journey from North Korea to the west coast of the United States, or to European cities such as Zurich and Stockholm.
It is more than capable of the 5,000km trip from Pyongyang to Singapore, if a summit between the US and North Korea were to take place there, as has been suggested.

I REALLY like that Kim Jong-un is leaving behind a lot of ‘comfort zone’ behavior and tradition of previous dictator North Korean leaders. This pushing of the traditional boundaries bodes well for true change. But we shall see. He’s already done 2 MAJOR actions to show more than just good faith. But commitment to change. I know we all need to be cautious. VERY much so. But I am hopeful. Apparently this guy really hates being called names ;D.
I kind of like Easter Island for the planned summit. I hear the turtle soup there is excellent.
Correction: Tired Plan[e] Syndrome
Kim resembles a bloated moai; he might be uncomfortable about that.
"Overseas" has a broad definition these days I guess.
IL-62 is a good Soviet-built passenger aircraft.
Aeroflot has replaced nearly all of its fleet with Western planes.
Kruschev came on an IL-62 to the US during a state visit in 1959.
We know Trump loves planes, he might be able to flatter Fat Boy if he sees he’s been in the cockpit pretending to be a pilot.
How they ever fit him in a cockpit, who knows.
Once - here in Japan - I drank the blood of a soft-shelled turtle ( mixed with sho chu which is vodka-like Japanese booze ) and ate its meat ( cooked ) . Supposed to increase a persons energy and protein supply . Once was enough lol .
Send him Trump Force One, I am sure it is in a Temp Controlled hangar somewhere, up to FAR spec, and spit polished. Get him their reliably.
Well I’ll be gosh darned.
He flew. That is interesting.
He’s going to Singapore to meet Trumpy baby. I just have this feeling that all this sounds too good to be true. Believe me, I love seeing Trump haters bend themselves into pretzels trying to not give him credit for this success. But how do you go from a vicious mad dog dictator to lovable puppy dog overnight? Somehow something doesn’t smell right. I am glad that the prisoners were released but that’s like a robber taking your money and give it back to you and thanking them for being gracious. We’ll see how it goes. I hope we don’t end up giving Lil Dong a break and he continues his tyranny. The punk is still a punk and one of the conditions of whatever agreement comes to pass is that he’s gotta go.
I lean toward that, too. We probably need a new management in Pyongyang. Xi and Kim met and may have decided that they will go half-way, giving Trump enough to declare a win accompanied with media fanfare, who MSM will undoubtedly eat up. But I don't know exactly what Trump's eventual game plan is. He stacked up demands lately, and pressing harder on Kim.
He still has big sticks. For China, it is more trade sanctions. For N. Korea, some form of blockade(naval interdiction.)
The first step is for a large contingent of nuclear inspectors to show up in Pyongyang for denuclearization process. IAEA inspectors won't cut it. U.S. military inspectors need to show up, and should operate for extended period of time. It should be done in a short order. Could it happen? Or do they have some convert op in place to get rid of him eventually?
We will see.
Not me. I don’t want to think about who we get next if this kid dies. I do think that little Rocket Man is trying, very carefully, to get down off the tiger.
He’s young (relatively speaking), he’s lived in the West (school in Switzerland), and he’s in no hurry to die.
I can’t think he sleeps very well at night because, regardless of what he says in public, he knows he is in charge of a fricking looney-bin and the only thing that’s keeping him alive is making sure that he is as dangerous and unpredictable as all the freaking geezers surrounding him.
He’ll never say so aloud, but I think he’d fricking LOVE to accept a Golden Parachute retirement to a villa outside of Beijing and let someone else have the joy of fixing the mess his daddy and grandpa made of the place. Whether or not it can be done — that’s another kettle of fish.
Yeah, there’s a lot of heavy lifting ahead. I agree to not let IAEI inspect. Keep on the offense and have the little prick sign an unconditional surrender on the Missouri after it’s brought out of mothballs. But just like the Dr. said in another comment,a liberal administration can destroy all the good work like what B.O.did in Iraq. Man, did he screw up the middle East or what. The whole world for that matter.
