Palin: Hearing that McCain regrets picking me for VP is a 'perpetual gut-punch'

Sarah Palin said Thursday that Sen. John McCain's (R-Ariz.) admission that he regrets picking her as his running mate in his failed 2008 presidential bid is "like a perpetual gut-punch."

The former Republican vice presidential nominee said the senator's recent remarks were "not what Sen. McCain has told me all these years, as he's apologized to me repeatedly for the people who ran his campaign," she told the Daily Mail before speaking at a pro-Trump PAC fundraiser.

In his upcoming memoir, “The Restless Wave: Good Times, Just Causes, Great Fights, and other Appreciations,” the 81-year-old senator laments not selecting former Sen. Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn.) as his vice presidential candidate.

McCain still gives Palin high marks for her work on his campaign.

"I attribute a lot of what we're hearing and reading regarding McCain's statements to his ghostwriter or ghostwriters," Palin told the Daily Mail, saying she would have to hear from McCain herself.

McCain is currently at home in Arizona where he is receiving treatment for brain cancer, but remains a strong voice in the GOP and the Senate where he often criticizes the Trump administration.

Sweet Sarah, don’t let it get you down. YOU were the one most of us voted for because we had no choices back then.

Could you imagine a campaign of McCain and Lieberman? Neither one could draw a crowd of any size, it would have been like the campaign that never was. At least with Palin, she was drawing crowds in the tens of thousands on a regular basis. McCain barely drew a few hundred, and sometimes even fewer.

He has been saying hateful things for years. To be a target you only had to disagree with him on a policy. He has insulted conservatives for years over immigration and border issues. He is not and never has been a nice man. I have no idea how he has managed to get re elected so many times in Arizona. I suspect shenanigans.

He reminds me of Hillary.

I noticed the talks show hosts, notably Letterman, and MSM attacked Palin falsely and relentlessly. Yet even though McCain came across as a feeble and confused man, he was criticized much less. Yet it was he who was running for POTUS.

I bet McCain’s ghost writer is a Bush or somebody close to the Bushes.

He's been with McCain for a long time, certainly 10 years, maybe more like 30.

People forget that before McCain hated Trump there was no love lost between him and the Bushes.

It's not that the Bushes are behind what McCain's people are doing now anymore than Romney was behind what they were doing 10 years ago.

McCain and Team McCain are all about McCain, not anybody else.

Because he has always been one of them. He has not one conservative thought in his head. He is a dim at heart, any time he sounded the least bit conservative he was lying for votes.

Sarah, when I learned about the short list, way before you were selected, I read all of the information about the choices. When I read about you, I put your photo on my desktop and hoped you would be the one. It was a great celebration for me when you were selected. You will always be in my mind, a national treasure who was God-given from the State of Alaska to the people of America.

Sarah made me proud during the whole campaign. She was an inspiration both as a natural leader with an incredible background, and an energetic campaigner with a unique and exciting message. She was and is loved by good people. She had the good sense to do everything possible to campaign in Michigan. She was reviled because she was feared, because she was good. Her tormentors now spew their evil toward President Trump, but he presses on regardless. Sarah’s destiny was not to be Vice President to the unworthy John McCain. She has a different purpose. God bless her forever.

“I hope he dies soon.”

I just want him to shut up, not die. I’ve lost a couple friends to brain cancer, and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone! Just put him somewhere nice, and don’t listen to him.

For some unknown reason, Sarah has a soft spot for McTraitor. Or perhaps a better way to put it is, she has a blind spot for the vile betrayer. She really needs to lift the veil.

Spot on with your comment.

McCain should be thankful he chose her, he did as well as he did because of her.
