A U.S. Army soldier has been reduced in rank to the E-1 grade and given a Bad Conduct Discharge after a panel of soldiers and officers ruled he deliberately destroyed three Humvee vehicles being airdropped during an exercise by cutting the straps to their parachutes.
The issue has been covered closely by the Military Times and the site reported Wednesday that Sgt. John Skipper, a Germany-based cavalry scout, was convicted of destruction of government property and making false statements.
The event happened in 2016. Skipper was found guilty of three instances of destroying military property worth over $500 and lying.
Military officials said Silver was not a parachute rigger, but a scout who was told to help the Italy-based parachute riggers for the exercise.
Video of the incident went viral on the web, and showed the vehicles exploding on impact after they were dropped during the Saber Junction exercise at the Hohenfels Training Area in Germany.
A soldier on the ground, making the video, can be heard cheering and laughing and using very offensive language.

The other aspect, beyond the intentional sabotage, was the reckless endangerment to the drop zone safety crew that was on the DZ. A Bad Conduct Discharge is definitely not enough. Should have a DD and a stay at Leavenworth.
I watch the video and said wow that’s a OH crap moment.
why is this UNSTABLE/SICK maggot still in the military?
Could not stand Ham & Lima Beans.
The spaghetti and meat & patatoes were the only two meals I really, really preferred to be heated. The rest I could manage cold.
My late father-in-law was in the USAF and was an Xray technician and part of a rapid hospital response unit, like a MASH type thing the best he described it. Back in the 50’s the brass decides they need to do an emergency field exercise and actually deploy and set up operations. Part of it was for the USAF to do an airdrop in the equipment and the men on the ground would retrieve it and get the unit set up and functioning.
Well somewhere along the way either the pilot, weather and winds or something showed up with Mr. Murphy and Mr. SNAFU. My FIL was standing just outside the drop zone and saw the transports coming in and suddenly way before the equipment was supposed to drop out it comes and those brand new portable Xray machines and the rest of the hospital equipment went floating off into a vast Louisiana swamp. They never did retrieve any of it. He never heard who got their butts chewed for that expensive mishap.
It was a General Courts Martial as a Special Courts Martial may only hand out up to a year of confinement. This article stated he faced up to ten years.
The very few times I got the spaghetti and meatballs I thought I was in Heaven. Getting those darned eggs with ham or that awful Tuna was what I feared.
Once I got a can of chicken. It was flaked chicken and delicious. I have talked to many people over the years who never heard of the chicken but I know I got one once.
And he didn’t do a day........
Yes, the equipment is worth dollars.
