I don't know if you are aware of this, but Trump's sister is a liberal Federal Judge in a district in New York. I saw an article last years in which she was being interviewed, and they asked her if she ever got into fights with Trump as they were growing up. She said something like:

She also said he was an avid practical joker....and I can see him using that on several occasions. Expert trolling.
When in conflict, one of the most grievous mistakes one can make is to dismiss or underestimate your opponent.
Trump may be a lot of things, but there are two things he is not: He is not stupid, and he isn't a wuss.
The left, as is their wont to do, can only make conservatives Stupid, Evil, or Evil and Stupid. There is no other characterization. Unfortunately for Leftitsts, he is not only pretty sharp with lots of experience in arenas where he's is playing with his own money, he is also aggressive.
Sure, he is more inexperienced in the ways of pure governmental politics, but...he is a fast learner. When he said, after he signed the last budget "I'm not going to do it again" I believe him.
Can't say THAT about a lot of politicians, that is for sure.
Maybe some of this is a knack, but mostly it is Trump being an integral part of NY business, financial, social, and political life for 40 years. He has an organization of very talented people who are paid to watch out for his interests. Many are street wise former NYPD and State Police whose skill and connections gave given Trump much ingo, business and personal about those with whom he has business. His 2013 tweet about Schneiderman was not a guess and Schneiderman should have paid attention. If Trump had similar insight into DC he would be in a lot better position right now to combat Deep State. But I can see him dropping the hammer on Mario’s brat.
