Republicans are panicking as internal polls show Don Blankenship, a coal baron who spent time in jail for a mining disaster that killed 29 workers, surging into the lead in the West Virginia Senate GOP primary over Attorney General Patrick Morrissey and Congressman Evan Jenkins.

Thank you. That is exactly what I said too.
The Washington Spending party does not tolerate challengers who will reign in spending.
I think a lot of us are on the same page with this observation. Reform candidates are attacked by the entire Washington DC money spending system.
What makes you think Blankenship is interested in doing that?
Morrissey!
I see this in terms of Alabama: Morrissey is Brooks, the sold, stable conservative. Jenkins is Strange, the Establishment RINO “moderate”, and Blankenship is Moore, teh wildcard with the controversial and potentially dangerous, harmful past.
The whole plan is to ensure teh RINO wins, but can the RINO beat Manch8in in November? Good question.
Nominate Morrissey and win. Nominate Blankenship ans blow it.
Open primaries cause a lot of the problems. That is why we have John McCain and Lindsey Graham. Dems crossover to vote for them.
In this day in time, open primaries are not needed or are they useful.
I very much doubt that he is. I shall not be surprised if he wins the primary, and then the race goes to a Democrat.
The Washington DC spending Cartel always pulls out the stops to stop anyone whom they see as a threat to business as usual.
In this day in time, open primaries are not needed or are they useful.
I agree.
Our election system is so corrupt as advantage ALWAYS goes to the left. It has to be fixed but it won’t.
I wasn't aware Chris McDaniel losing resulted in a Democratic pick up? As for Joe Miller, he lost to a write-in candidate in a red state, how is that not on him? Furthermore, again, make your "RINO" jokes all you want, but Lisa Murkowski is not a Democrat, so again, it's moot.
I'm not sure what you're referring to with Allen. He narrowly lost in a purple state in a Democratic wave election after he himself said "macaca." The "GOP backstabbers" didn't mind control him into saying that.
It seems to me you want to blame every loss on some intangible entity rather than the candidates themselves.
That isn't the criteria. The Criteria is whether the person who got the seat was a good fit with the Washington establishment system, and you know the answer to that question.
Cochran is a good little RINO who can always be counted on to support the Washington DC spending party.

Did he mention anything about Island's flipping over, or having to pass something to find out what was in it?
"Macaca" was a made up scandal in which our side fully accepted and embraced the Democrat Media Weapon's characterization of it as "beyond the pale racism". We not only let them savage him, people on our side jumped onto the dog pile.
I've made this point often. Democrats invariably say idiotic stupid things, and the media weapon passes them over. Our people sometimes say something that wasn't well thought out, and the media weapon focuses on it like a laser beam, and all our party stalwarts then agree with them that it's outrageous, and our side just needs to lose.
"I'm not a witch". "Macaca". "Women's bodies have ways of stopping pregnancy when conceived through rape." (which happens to have a basis in medical fact) and so forth.
Many people say stupid things on occasion, and Democrats say stupider things than most, but Democrats do not backstab their own candidates, and the Democrat media weapon does not attack them when they say stupid things.
George allen was a two term former governor and incumbent US senator that was on track to run for the white house when he lost. Chris McDaniel beat cockroach then lost in the primary run off when black democratic cross overs were brought in by the GOP (not a conspiracy, but the truth) to take out Chris in he primary run-off. Sharon Angle was in the lead in EVERY single poll from 6 months out and lost by $50K votes to Harry Reid, that was a total scam vote. Not a single poll ever had her behind. Delaware was to be taken by a congressman RINO Castle to hold for Biden’s boy and then retire. the establishment went bazurk when she won. They refused to support her and Castle would have never won reelection. Republicans eat their own. Joe Wilson beat the COW for heavens sake winning the GOP nomination and the GOP spent the $ to do a write in for the COW. If Joe isn’t one of us, no one is. The GOP is against us, don’t shoot our own.
Well said...folks need to remember the Supreme Court!!
Good post. I had forgotten some of the details you added.
One term gov.
In Virginia you cannot run for re-election.
Thank God and Thomas Jefferson.
In what witch-doctor world?
You are 100% correct. In my 52 years of non-aligned voting I have heard many running for office claiming they will clean things up. Pat Morrissey however, is the ONLY candidate I can remember who has actually DONE something toward this end. Last year as AG he removed more than 26,000 "dead" registrations from the WV voting roles. Not a small amount in a state with a population of only 1.227 million registered voters
I guess you didn't read the articles posted here on Free Republic at the time.
think i’d have to agree with you. Maybe it’s worse to have an entrenched RINO than a temporary Dem.I’m currently viewing the order of preference as Morrissey/Blankenship/Manchin/Jenkins
I wasn't around here when Akin stepped in it. But hopefully you have something more authoritative than the Toddster alone.
Akin restated the same fact that has been published in the medical literature, which is that the incidence of pregnancy due to rape is rare. For example, the 6th Edition (2012) of the classic textbook by Lentz confirms:[23] In the experience of most sexual assault centers, the chance of pregnancy occurring is quite low.
An objective medical commentator, citing a published statistic that pregnancy from rape occurs only 1 in 50 times, observed that Akin was not wrong in his medical observation, and that false allegations of rape obviously do occur.[24]
Published peer-reviewed studies confirm that stresswhich rape would induceinterferes with the establishment and maintenance of a pregnancy:[25]
stress-related biomarkers ... affect establishment of pregnancy.
"Hormones and other chemicals wreak havoc on the uterus" due to stress, as reported in 2003 in this peer-reviewed study:[26]
In what may prove to be a breakthrough finding, a team of scientists from Tufts University and Greece have identified a suspected chain reaction detailing exactly how stress hormones and other chemicals wreak havoc on the uterus and fetus.

Articles posted at the time indicated that Akins got his perspective from a Pro-Life medical Doctor who had spoken with him on the issue and who had informed him of this ability of women to block pregnancy in cases of actual rape, and he was simply repeating what this Doctor had told him. It was politically tone deaf because most people are not aware of this phenomena.
You're welcome.
