Republicans are panicking as internal polls show Don Blankenship, a coal baron who spent time in jail for a mining disaster that killed 29 workers, surging into the lead in the West Virginia Senate GOP primary over Attorney General Patrick Morrissey and Congressman Evan Jenkins.

Are there large number of Democrats crossing over to force Blankenship onto the Republican Ticket? This really needs to be changed. In some states, people who vote in primarys can only vote in the selection of the party to which they are registered to vote and help select. Hopefully people in West Virginia realize we have a fox in the henhouse.

Odd, the article claims to be authored by JOHN MCCORMACK.
You claimed to have authored it yourself.
Odd.

Whose “internal polls” exactly? If they’re from the official Blankenship campaign or the NRSC, I wouldn’t take it too seriously.

What you say is what I’m thinking.

Blakenship defines the term “lackluster candidate.”

This kind of looks like the Judge Moore thing all over again.
Polls are not always indicative of what the actual election results may turn out to be.
Even the Democrats in West Virginia are not all that doctrinaire. There is a LOT of crossover among politicians, switching back and forth between “Democrat” and “Republican”, which in West Virginia does not mean the same thing it does in California.
At least, not until they get to Washington.

Here we go again. Another race like Mississippi, Alabama, Delaware, and Missouri.
Not commenting on any of these individual candidates, but how is it that Republicans getting themselves into this situation over and over again?

While I'm not a Blankenship supporter, I don't think the race is necessarily an automatic win for Manchin if he's the nominee. West Virginia voters have always had a oversized attraction to billionaire candidates (Jay Rockefeller, Jim Justice and Donald Trump come to mind) and Blankenship would certainly have a bottomless warchest in what is a dirt cheap media market (God, knows he's flooded every medium with ads just for the primary).

Good question. Allowing democrats to vote in a Republican primary is stupidity.

Lot of slam dunk U.S. Senate seats thrown away by GOP primary electorates. Let's not add another to the list.

W Va. is an Open Primary State. Democrats can sometimes pick Republican candidates in a close race...

What you have there is a list of elections where the Bush League Republicans teamed up with the Democrats to give the seat to the Democrats.

Roy Moore was beaten on allegations alone.
Blankenship is a criminal and is reponsible for 29 miners
losing their lives. These are facts. Not allegations.
You folks supporting Blankenship have death wishes.
Wise up.

Not commenting on any of these individual candidates, but how is it that Republicans getting themselves into this situation over and over again? The Establishment Uniparty system always attacks and destroys the reform candidate. That's how.

I think you need to talk to the RINO universe and have them not go to war against candidates they dont want to see in Washington.
