A schoolgirl with one leg shorter than the other has been told by the NHS her only option is amputation.
However, a leading US surgeon claims UK doctors have the training but not the confidence to save her limb by lengthening it, and that the NHS lacks the highly specialist rehabilitation services she needs after surgery.
Dr Dror Paley has told the parents of seven-year-old Kyra Warrell, who was born with a rare condition affecting her thigh bone, that her treatment is straightforward.

I think the ref was to a Trump liveried airplane. His personal aircraft, not presidential.
They were able to raise the money to fly to Israel to see the American doctor who does these surgeries once a year there. Of course, she needs several more surgeries before she’s fully grown.
Just saw an article that doctors in UK hospitals, and legislators reject President Trump’s comments comparing a London hospital to a war zone because of knife crime. What a joke. The hospitals hire the doctors, who are in the end, actually paid by the government. Of course they’re going to reject his comments. They want to get paid. The London murder rate is higher than New York City’s.
Brits are allergic to soap too...
Because it has over a million employees who sick up salaries, pensions, and bennies.
That is true, except would they want their bossy younger brother showing them?
Some rationing system. Prince Phillip at 96 years old gets a hip replacement to improve the quality of his life. A 6 year old girl gets told she can't get surgery to improve the quality of her life, but instead can only get her leg chopped off.
....sick up...
And good luck finding out what percentage of the NHS’s annual budget goes to administrative costs.
Aaaaargh. Suck up..
Because the NHS lives on a budget, and the US lives on borrowed or printed money.
Just a few years ago, I read here that wealthy people wanting to two or three inches taller had made thigh bone lengthening something of a fad in China. Bet there are specialists in Hong Kong or Singapore that could do it.f
Hmnmmm. Could it be because it is GOVERNMENT-RUN “health care”?
Very true. Dentists (so my husband and friends told me when they were growing up) would rather yank the tooth than fill it. Hubby had all of his dental work redone in the US. Has a perfect smile, now.
The NHS lives on a budget, but where’s the money going, eh? How much goes to patient care, and how much to administrative costs?
The NHS is the planet’s fifth largest employer. The overhead has got to be a money pit.
I’m quite sure the NHS, which is a political contrivance, has a huge political overhead.
I’m also sure that no national health system with a budget could or would pay $259 000/patient/year to palliate, not cure, CF.
And I’m also sure that the medical abundance we enjoy is paid for with phony money.
I know a young girl who had a 6 inch difference. They shortened one leg and lengthened the other and there is just a small difference.
And Im also sure that the medical abundance we enjoy is paid for with phony money.
Kyra. Most likely a white girl. Theres the main reason.
“I think the ref was to a Trump liveried airplane. “
I knew that—but it is still a bad idea.

Cookie cutter medicine. Down to the point where you show your ailment by pointing at pictograms. If you are lucky, you might get to see Dr Lexus.
If you try to describe something in detail, you could be diagnosed as being tarded.
