The clock is ticking for special counsel Robert Mueller.
With six months to go until Novembers midterm elections, Mr. Muellers investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential campaign will soon run into a dead zone of sorts, in which former prosecutors say they expect him either to wrap up, or lie low and take no visible steps until after the election.
Though Mr. Mueller doesnt face any specific legal deadline, the fall midterms amount to a political one, according to experts and prosecutors. He will reach a point this summer when Justice Department habits dictate that he will have to either finish his inquiries or go dark and stretch out his work until past November so he doesnt appear to be trying to sway voters decisions, which would be at odds with Justice Department guidelines for prosecutors.
Mr. Mueller has a lot still to doprepare several reports, bring expected charges against alleged Russian hackers behind the breach of the Democratic National Committee and make decisions on whether to prosecute other cases. Perhaps the most politically sensitive issue he has yet to resolve is whether the special counsels office will interview President Donald Trump.
He might get all those things done in the next few months. But if he cant, he may have to go quiet during the political season and resume afterward.

shut it down now.
There is no way he will voluntarily shut it down, precisely because it IS political.
This was put into place to counter disrupt and harass Trump his administration and all who are involved with the Trump agenda. This is the deep state which includes the globalists like soros. These treasonous bastards need to be brought to justice but I doubt this will ever happen. They will wait out the 7 or so years and come back with the deathblow to America
He will ratchet it up after midterms if Dems take House to supercharge impeachment circus.
§ 600.4 Jurisdiction.
(a)Original jurisdiction. The jurisdiction of a Special Counsel shall be established by the Attorney General. The Special Counsel will be provided with a specific factual statement of the matter to be investigated.
This whole article is based on the assumption that Mueller is an honest, non-partisan, straight talking prosecutor of integrity. What fools!
It is going to get shut down and soon. The writing on the wall came Friday.
More happy horse-sh*t from the Wall Street journal, as usual. The people running this farce “investigation” have long since determined what “bombshell” revelations they will release one month and one week before the midterm elections.
I see a lot of leaking going on from a “quiet” Mueller investigation while the election is ongoing...
“More happy horse-sh*t from the Wall Street journal, as usual.”
And the WSJ is owned by Fox Snooze, so you know it’s “fair and balanced!” (s)
Fake post
Officially dark but with more leaks than the Chernobyl nuclear reactor.....
Not to mention the nice paycheck.
As events unfolded in that courtroom in Alexandria,VA last Friday (or was it Thursday?) it appears as if one,or more,Federal judges will be throwing at least one huge monkey wrench into Mueller's machine. So there's at least some hope that this massive coup attempt by Rat Party Headquarters will fail miserably.
A man who raids the president attorney is going to do whatever he can to affect the election.
The pay is good. I seem to remember something like $1200 or $1400 per hour, and I bet he’s working hard—many hours billed.
In fact, with the team Mueller has assembled, I’m amazed that they’ve only burned through a reported $10 million so far.
The lack of political sophistication in this comment is why the print media is dead.
