#27: TOM JONES: “DELILAH” The Welshman who couldn’t speak Welsh – Mary Hopkin embarrassed him on his own TV show – had a hit with this melodramatic jealousy murder tune. It’s a waltz, and few were brave enough to write waltzes in the Sixties.
This song was one of the highlights of the retrospective I did of the songbook of Les Reed and Barry Mason from the British version of the Brill Building. Catch those dissonant sevenths that start the song.
