Big one
Underwater? Underwater scares me even without earthquakes.
In Anchorage years ago I belonged to a health club in the basement of the Captain Cook Hotel. The hotel sits on top of the fault (they say), and it freaked me out every minute I was there. Finally had to end my membership. The thought of a big hotel crumbling on top of me...
Good one! :)
“According to Barrios, the sound coming from the fishers was also distinct.”
“fishers” instead of “fissures”. Embarrassing editing in the article.
The “shake” site said this was the biggest since the big one in 1975, which generated a tsunami that took 2 lives...don’t know the dynamics and whether the islands or further shores would see most effects if any tsunamis are generated.
>>>Got to visit St. Helens in 2012 and looked south at the mountain from the observatory.
I first visited in 1989...when there was only a crude asphalt strip laid down for auto traffic and most of the fallen trees had been ‘harvested’ by Wayerhauser (the massive lumber corp of the area). I paid to see the theater show (at the new observatory) of the blast which ended with curtains opening up in front of windows that gave line of sight view straight towards the business end of the mountain. Honestly...that few second sight forever altered my meaning of existence.
We are not of this world.....
We are only passing through.
The tectonic plates a re moving and as they do, new weak spot open up. The Earth quakes trouble me and they weren’t so active the last time the lava flowed.
Meanwhile, some really interesting info here, including that there is such a thing as volcano insurance...
Hawaii volcano, quake evacuees share stories of shock, fear, frustration
Ping for some updates above :-)
I hated ravioli for decades after my step monster used to feed us that Chef boyardee slime as a kid.
Wow! How would you like to wake up and see this outside your window? Many prayers up for the good people of Hawaii!
Looks like the whole southeastern coast could go!
