The feud that has simmered for months between Congress and the Justice Department erupted this week into a cage match. Thats because the House is homing in on the goods.
Until this week, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and fellow institutionalists at the department had fought Congresss demands for information with the tools of banal bureaucracyresist, delay, ignore, negotiate. But Mr. Rosenstein took things to a new level on Tuesday, accusing House Republicans of threats, extortion and wanting to rummage through department documents. A Wednesday New York Times story then dropped a new slur, claiming Mr. Rosenstein and top FBI officials have come to suspect that some lawmakers were using their oversight authority to gain intelligence about [Special Counsel Bob Muellers ] investigation so that it could be shared with the White House.
Mr. Rosenstein isnt worried about rummaging. Thats a diversion from the departments opposite concern: that it is being asked to comply with very specificpotentially very revealingdemands. Two House sources confirm for me that the Justice Department was recently delivered first a classified House Intelligence Committee letter and then a subpoena (which arrived Monday) demanding documents related to a new line of inquiry about the Federal Bureau of Investigations Trump investigation. The deadline for complying with the subpoena was Thursday afternoon, and the Justice Department flouted it. As the White House is undoubtedly monitoring any new congressional demands for information, it is likely that President Trumps tweet Wednesday ripping the department for not turning over documents was in part a reference to this latest demand.
Republicans also demand the FBI drop any objections to declassifying a section of the recently issued House Intelligence Committee report that deals with a briefing former FBI Director James Comey provided about former national security adviser Mike Flynn.

“You are clueless and have no knowledge of what the DOJ is actually doing”

Trump should direct the DoJ to turn over the identified documents by 1:00 PM today.
At 1:01 PM today, US Marshals should frog-march Sessions and Rosenstein out of the DoJ building and into a waiting paddy wagon.”
Exactly what I was thinking. This has come down to a publicity war between Trump as President and the DOJ. Trump should state there will be transparency in his administration. And then give the documents to the members of Congress already approved for the highest secrecy status for review and release—without redactions where appropriate.
Unfortunately more than a few progressives and Rino’s believe in a totally independent DOJ to keep the executive branch and Congressional foes in check per their beliefs. Worse still, the DOJ culture buys into it.
Never Trumpism gives bipartisan top cover to this nonsense. Where are the “true conservatives” in Congress? Totally MIA.
Why the Justice Department Is Defiant?
Because they know our Republican-majority Congress does not have the b@lls to cut off their funding.
Nope. They know our Republican majority Congress SUPPORTS the DOJ obstruction of the MAGA agenda.
And if about a million or 2 million, armed with AR15s marched on DC, peacefully(as they most certainly would), I think a lot of this would start sorting this out. Be interesting to see what the DC cops and Capitol PD would do, when faced with that. Just a one slow stroll through OUR nations capitol.
BLM thought they were going to steamroll Bundy, until Patriots showed, with some of their own weaponry, took the high ground and that was that. And, lo and behold, Bundy then whoops their asses in court. Imagine that.
They are proceeding in a secret manner.
We know of an IG that will report very soon. We know that a prosecutor has been assigned to take over the IG results and prosecute
We know that there are criminal referrals from the congress that are apparently also assigned to the prosecutor.
Precisely how it is being done is not for you or me to know
[They are proceeding in a secret manner.]
LOL
Keep the faith baby, keep the faith.
There’s always the Henry II option.
It said the Republicans were alarmed by the intel communitys tradecraft failings, but they werent allowed to spell out the failings because of the level of classified material involved.
The House report said, While the committee found that most ICA analysis held up to scrutiny, the investigation also identified significant intelligence tradecraft failings that undermine confidence in the JCA judgments regarding Russian President Vladimir Putins strategic objectives for disrupting the U.S. election.
The report also noted that the complaints were rooted in trying to damage President-elect Trump, as leaks increased dramatically after the Nov. 8 election.
These days, I wonder if the only working option is martial law.
