Build a friggin' dorm.
Include housing in said dorm as part of the compensation.
That will eliminate per diem reimbursements or housing payments. It can be very lavish, who cares?

Otherwise, absolutely ZERO allowance for personal residences or offsets for MD or VA pols who drive to work.

........”They are making a decent wage for a decent town in America. But in DC, one of the highest priced places in the country, while maintaining the family back home, impossible”.....

I agree...it’s a problem that needs to be resolved.

I think one of the reasons there is such a push for a higher minimum wage is that raising the wage floor is very price inflationary. For some reason, real estate prices on the coasts are skyrocketing while wages are not.

How many $$$millions do they get each term for ‘incidentals’ and ‘accessories’?

Louis Gohmert is one of the guys sleeping in his office. He's not taking anything from anyone. You guys are acting like sleeping in a cot in your office is some kind of special privilege.

Aren’t there military bases in the area with housing where they could live?

Years ago Dick Army from Texas did that and the RATs passed a special rule to make him stop.

It might be best if each state established an embassy in D.C. where their Senators, Representative and other dignitaries could stay for free. Making them a little beholden to the people they claim to represent.

Don’t they have public housing in DC? Better call HUD.

Well. Perhaps these “poor souls” should find employment in their hometowns? Their living arrangements are of no concern to me.

I would propose building a trailer park next-door to Obama’s new digs.

24/7 anklet monitors.

24/7 streaming video of all entrances, all calls logged for public viewing, no luxury living.

Stay in your district and vote remotely via a secure system. Being closer to the people your represent would be a big plus!

Closer to constituents - farther away from lobbyist and evils of swamp

I had a new toilet installed today. It has dolphins and fish and a turtle on the lid.

The United States would be better served if members of Congress were required to remain in their districts and "telecommute" to Washington DC.

Make it very hard for lobbyists to buttonhole them en masse, and it will stop a lot of corruption as well as prevent a lot of unnecessary laws.

I wonder what the ratio of Democrats to Republicans is. The 3 women example they’re all Republican.

They should get a very small RV and keep it in the parking lot.

I still cannot wrap my head around politicians spending $millions to get elected to a job that pays $174k.

Perks, of course, are in the $millions.

They are making a decent wage for a decent town in America. But in DC, one of the highest priced places in the country, while maintaining the family back home, impossible.

Which highlights a major reason why Government is out of control.
