I still donate $25 per year to the Scouts because they perform a service for me. On all the flag holidays (excerpt for Veterans’ Day, which is a school day for them) they put an American Flag in front of our house at curbside, next to our mailbox. If they weren’t doing something for me, I would never contribute to any of their fundraising efforts. They are a dead organization to me now and unworthy IMO of support.
I was on a Scout camping trip at Walnuts Flats to hike the AT. There was another group there, only men and boys. They were identical to our group except they had no rules. They were hunting wild hogs, fishing, smoking and drinking, big fire going, etc.
I thought to myself “That’s the way to do it”.
