The White House Correspondents' Association (WHCA) is taking heat the day after comedian Michelle Wolf took shots from the stage at presidential press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
A number of observers in attendance felt the former "Daily Show" comedian went over the line with her jokes, which drew heavy conservative fire on Sunday.
White House national security adviser John Bolton slammed the event in an interview with Chris Wallace on "Fox News Sunday," saying he was happy not to attend.
"Just reprehensible behavior by someone addressing the gathering, and sadly it's par for the course in Washington today," Bolton said.
Fox News reporter Ed Henry called on WHCA to apologize to Sanders.
Other high-profile journalists also criticized the event, and the president of the group that organizes the dinner distanced herself from the material, though she did not offer an apology.

White House Correspondents Dinner = a safe place for liberals to be nasty to conservatives.
The headline is correct. Read it again.
Dear Sarah Sanders, there are 50 - 60 million Americans at least, who will not think less of you, if you skipped these losers' party.
They could not find a comedian with some a bit of class, to do this event. On the other hand, it speaks to the lack of class of the people who booked her.
I understand going after a sitting President. However, they NEVER went after Barack Obama and barely after Clinton.
Actually it’s the media today attempting to say this was about Sarah is to cover for the obvious, and beyond disgusting, foul mouthed character they selected and screened for their show and tell. making it about Sarah softens the impact of the elephant in the room, and the fact any and all the Journalists were entertained or they would have left or at least shown some disapproval at the time. They didn’t.
Now it’s a day later and they’re all back stepping and excusing..... dodging the publics outcry for fear of what it has and will cost them.
The media always finds a way to prove Trump right about them. I don’t think they even realize what they are doing.
New meaning has been given to the term “boorish”. This was not merely bad manners, it was deep-seated hostility expressed as some kind of “wit”.
Well, Michelle Wolf was half-right.
Aggressive, crude and insensitive. And those are her GOOD qualities.

They hate @PressSec Sarah Huckabee Sanders because she represents every aspect of American womanhood that we admire: intelligence, grace, empowerment, patriotism, and beauty. The troll who trashed her at the #WHCD was too dim to memorize her own jokes. She had to read them.
Mike Huckabee had a few twitter comments as well.
Predictable, biased, mean spirited, stupid and ugly.
They never learn. They hand Trump the bludgeon so he can beat on their heads!
Plus, it’s tired, and not even funny. If you can make me laugh about it, then do so, and there is a lot to goof on, but they can’t. They just want to rave, like coked up maniacs, all saying the same thing, and it is to get Trump.
Do away with press conferences. They are no longer needed. Sarah can make a video of what Trump wants to communicate, post it to the White House web site, and call it a day.
Someone should have tossed urine and feces in her nasty face.
Why scrap it?
The Leftists should be encouraged to expose themselves more and more, and the White House Correspondence Dinner is a very good, high-profile, way to do it.
I watched her set. It was very mild.
I dont know what all the fuss is about.
Just "former comedian" will suffice. None of that was funny. At all.
Ah. One of these days I need to learn how to read.
On the defensive? Yeah, right.
Oh yeah, that didn't happen.
