Lawyer Who Was Said to Have Dirt on Clinton Had Closer Ties to Kremlin Than She Let On
The New York Times ^ | 04/27/2018 | Andrew E. Kramer and Sharon LaFraniere

MOSCOW — The Russian lawyer who met with Trump campaign officials in Trump Tower in June 2016 on the premise that she would deliver damaging information about Hillary Clinton has long insisted she is a private attorney, not a Kremlin operative trying to meddle in the presidential election.

But newly released emails show that in at least one instance two years earlier, the lawyer, Natalia V. Veselnitskaya, worked hand in glove with Russia’s chief legal office to thwart a Justice Department civil fraud case against a well-connected Russian firm.

Ms. Veselnitskaya also appears to have recanted her earlier denials of Russian government ties. During an interview to be broadcast Friday by NBC News, she acknowledged that she was not merely a private lawyer but a source of information for a top Kremlin official, Yuri Y. Chaika, the prosecutor general.

“I am a lawyer, and I am an informant,” she said. “Since 2013, I have been actively communicating with the office of the Russian prosecutor general.”

It was clearly an intelligence operation. Which intelligence agencies were behind it is not as clear to me. Russian? British and American intelligence using Russian assets? Ukranian? Other? ( British spies were first to spot Trump team's links with Russia: "The European countries that passed on electronic intelligence – known as sigint – included Germany, Estonia and Poland. Australia, a member of the 'Five Eyes' spying alliance that also includes the US, UK, Canada and New Zealand, also relayed material, one source said.") All of the above?

I saw CNN’s Erin Burnett like it was a big deal.

Who cares? Frankly, the real question she and her parent organization aren’t interested in investigating is who in the Obama Administration gave Veselnitskaya permission to enter this country.

They must have known of her Kremlin links. By the way, was their commentator James Clapper involved in that decision. If so, when did he know and what he know about it?

Again for the record, Trump never met her. And we’re supposed to take CNN’s word for it she now telling the truth. Was she lying earlier or is she lying now?

Is that why SC Rober Mueller hasn’t interviewed her? And why didn’t Burnett mention it on her show while waving the House Intel report around as those its conclusions are scandalous?

There is no proof Trump colluded, cooperated with or helped the Russians in any way or that they got any qui pro quo from allegedly helping to elect him President.

But this discredited narrative is one the fake news media will never give up. Its not that facts that interest them and even if Veselnitskaya hadn’t recanted, they would have found something else to keep it alive.

Count on it.

Every time the president builds some positive momentum the slimy media tries to offset it by scraping something negative off the bottom of the barrel and pushing it as an investigative coup.

It's rumored Brennan made a secret trip to Moscow in 2016.

I think Don Jr stayed the whole meeting.

As I recall, Jared Kushner and Trump's campaign manager at that time (maybe Manafort?) both left early.

I'm only on chapter six of this book, but I can't believe all the echos and deja vu from then til now.

This was the inspiration for my "six traitors" meme above.

CNN making a hullabaloo about Russian NRA Life Member Alexander Torshin.

Its now a hanging offense for foreigners to support 2nd Amendment rights.

They’re using Russian Collusion to smear just not Trump but by extension, the entire conservative movement.

These people are evil beyond all measure. They want to portray us fifth columnists and traitors to our country.

We mustn’t allow them to get away with it.

Re: “Who in the Obama Administration gave Veselnitskaya permission to enter this country.”

Trump is the Chief Executive Officer of the State Department.

Why doesn't Trump just release the paperwork on her visa?

Brennan seems to have been in the thick of it, along with Clapper.

9 Nov 2017: Fox News: Fusion GPS official met with Russian operative before and after Trump Jr. sit-down
by Catherine Herridge By Catherine Herridge, Pamela K. Browne, Cyd Upson
The co-founder of Fusion GPS, the firm behind the unverified Trump dossier, met with a Russian lawyer before and after a key meeting she had last year with Trump’s son, Fox News has learned...

But hours before the Trump Tower meeting on June 9, 2016, Fusion co-founder and ex-Wall Street Journal reporter Glenn Simpson was with Veselnitskaya in a Manhattan federal courtroom, a confidential source told Fox News. Court records reviewed by Fox News, email correspondence and published reports corroborate the pair’s presence together. The source told Fox News they also were together after the Trump Tower meeting...

Simpson’s presence with Veselnitskaya during this critical week in June — together with revelations about Fusion’s simultaneous financial ties to the DNC, Clinton campaign and Russian interests — raise new questions about the company’s role in the 2016 election...
Simpson and Fusion GPS were hired by BakerHostetler, which represented Russian firm Prevezon through Veselnitskaya...
Lawyers representing Fusion and Veselnitskaya did not respond to requests for comment lodged on Friday...

The DNC and Clinton campaign hired Fusion in April 2016 through lawyer Marc Elias, who was general counsel for the Clinton campaign. Fusion, in turn, paid Steele $168,000 for the dossier, memos from which were shared with the FBI in the summer of 2016...

Hillary Clinton paid Glenn Simpson to assemble and market dirt against Trump. It took the form of the Steele Dossier, which included material allegedly sourced from Russia, mostly unsubstantiated 2nd hand tales.

Natalia Veselnitskaia, now said to be a Russian “informant”, paid Glenn Simpson to work for “her” on projects such as opposition to the Magnitskii Act. That would be a convenient way to launder payments for other services, such as interfering in the US election.

So was Simpson acting as Hillary’s paid agent when he met with a Russian informant, acting on behalf of the Kremlin, immediately before and after her Trump Tower meeting with Donald Trump, Jr., et al.? Or was Simpson acting directly for a Russian informant? Or was he a link between HRC and NV?

Seems to me this story is fatal to Hillary Clinton, and any remaining credibility of the Fusion/Steele Dossier. Is anyone investigating this rather obvious collusion?

In that case it appears that this incident disproves the GPS dossiers primary point, ie that the Kremlin was strongly motivated to help Trump. Otherwise they wouldn’t have spurned his approach.

Re Funny thing is their Russian informant didn’t even work for SVR/FSB.

Well, how about Putin’s own internal intelligence group, the one he can trust, or the GRU - the old Soviet military intelligence organization? (Paging Alger Hiss - the GRU has orders for you).

Natalyia was fingered as a Russian agent as soon as she entered the legal scene. It’s SOP for anyone associated with Soviet/Russian governmental affairs and issue to report to the KGB/SVR/FSB or the rest of the intelligence alphabet soup there.

I don’t recall if she was registered as an Agent of a foreign power but since Comrade Obama’s administration let her in, and probably knew something about her and her mission, they could have “waived” any registration to please Putin and his friends in Congress.

#9 re What are the New York Times own ties to the Kremlin?

Let’s see: Walter Duranty covered Stalin’s crimes of mass murder and starvation in his years long writing from the Soviet Union.

They carried identified KGB agent and Australian Communist Party Soviet ‘disinformation’ specialist Wilfred Burchett on their Op-Ed columns page.

Their obituary writer Alden Whitman was an admitted former 12 year member of the CPUSA but even if he had left the Party, his writings about Communist Party dead members and covert members were coverups for much of the deceased Party membership, affiliation, and support activities. In fact, the CPUSA literally admitted to feeding him information so that he “wrote well of the Left dead”.

A good example of this was a short analytical piece in the “Accuracy In Media Bulletin” not too long after covert CPUSA member and Soviet asset Paul Robeson, the actor/singer, died. It was either in or about 1977 (if that was the year Robeson died. ( I don’t have that issue of AIM immediately available for the exact year of publication).

The NYT also published pro-Hanoi disinformation “journalists/researchers” including D. Gareth “Gary” Power on covering up mass murders of No. Vietnamese citizens during the 1950’s “Land Reform” programs.

Anthony Lewis, NYT columnist, also published Hanoi propaganda during the VN war esp. about foreign ships being able to run the US blockade of Haiphong Harbor (It didn’t happen).

NYT articles conveniently left out the true identities of VN protest leaders (many from the Communist Party USA and some from the Trotskyite Socialist Workers Party, an illegal member of the “Fourth International”), as well as other protest groups leaders who were CPUSA, or were leaders of the CPUSA controlled labor unions (Local 1199, District 65 Distributive Workers of America, Amalgamated Butchers & Meat Cutters Union, the Union of Electrical Workers (UE), etc.

A number of Op-Ed columns or letters to the editor usually failed to properly identify CPUSA (known) members while other stories about CPUSA members of old (Lillian Hellman, Hillary Clinton’s law professor Thomas I. Emerson, Charles R. Gary - where Hillary interned in a CPUSA dominated law firm in California, etc), never identified these people as enemies of the United States (since during their membership, the CPUSA was under complete operational control by Moscow.

A few stories (usually wire-service) about the World Peace Council, a KGB “peace” front, normally left out the fact that it was run by the KGB and the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.

Cuba - Herbert Matthews. Either a complete communist dupe or a knowing propaganda asset.

Other stories about Marxists fighting in Nicaragua and El Salvador often left out the avowed Marxist affiliations of these guerrilla groups leaders (FSLN and FMLN).

And the list goes on.
