House report backs claim that FBI agents did not think Flynn lied, despite guilty plea

House Intelligence Committee Republicans, in their newly released report concluding their Russia investigation, seemed to back up reports that FBI agents did not think ex-White House national security adviser Michael Flynn lied to them – despite his eventual guilty plea for making false statements.

Among the 44 findings in the report was a line stating that “Federal Bureau of Investigation agents did not detect any deception during Flynn's interview.”

The Washington Examiner’s Byron York first reported earlier this year that fired FBI boss James Comey had briefed lawmakers amid allegations Flynn had lied to Vice President Pence about conversations with then-Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak and speculation he may have misled FBI agents who questioned him in January 2017. Comey reportedly told lawmakers at the time that agents who interviewed Flynn did not believe he lied in that Jan. 24 meeting, and that any inaccuracies in his account were unintentional.

The justice system sucks. I have a friend who copped a plea deal to something they didn’t do because his lawyers told him it could cost up to $100K to fight the charges. Maybe if prosecutors where held personally financially liable for court costs and defense expenses in the event of an acquital, it would cut down on the number of frivolous prosecutions persued at tax payer expense for the sole purpose of enhancing the prosecutor’s resume.

Most likely he plead guilty to avoid a far greater injustice.

I think that pretty well sums it up.

I wonder if Mueller submitted this to the judge as “exculpatory evidence”. If the FBI agents that Flynn was charged with lying do not believe he lid to them, the judge should vacate the guilty verdict, and call Flynn in to explain why he pled guilty.

If he rescinds his guilty plea, won’t Mueller just charge him with lying about having lied? Anyone can see that truth and justice are the last thing on his mind.

It's not just prosecution cases/criminal cases. It's also any case in which you've been wronged and need legal help - especially if you are fighting a person or institution with deep pockets. Cases can get continued and continued and continued, with all kinds of legal filings, and every response requires you to spend money. It's beyond the means of many, if not most people to fight prolonged legal battles. Something has to change, at some level, because justice appears to only be available fully to those who can pay for it. Maybe relatively inexpensive legal insurance, like catastrophic health insurance?

My gut says Flynn caved when Mueller’s gestapo mentioned the heat they would bring on his son, and ‘reviewed’ with him the prospect of him hocking everything he owned just to mount a meager defense, against the unlimited resources of fedgov.
I believe Flynn took the plea as a pragmatic decision, to avoid all the rest of it.

And, Mueller knows it would never have gone to a guilty finding, but he was fishing for someone...ANYONE...to start the cracking of the dam to bring down Trump.

The whole lot of them should be in prison.
