Salem Media, owner of the influential conservative outlet RedState, froze the site on Friday and dismissed many of its writers.
Bloggers were locked out of their accounts -- some just temporarily, while the cuts were made, and others permanently.
Erick Erickson, who founded the site 13 years ago, and left in 2015, tweeted about what he called the "mass firing" on Friday morning.

They suck.
I believe that site has been rudderless for a while.
Red State started out as a Free Republic imitation site.
Red State was a propaganda organ of the Cheap Labor Express, same as Hewitt and Medved.
Salem may have finally wised up that conservatives are never going to endorse surrendering the country to illegal aliens through amnesty.
Aside from Victor D. Hanson and Kevin McCarthy NRO is a total establishment Republican Party, globalist waste of bandwith.
They stopped being conservatives and started being Party pukes after Buckley passed. If the GOP suddenly decided open socialism was cool and the in thing NRO would be preaching its virtues.
And I no longer buy the “I’m a principled conservative, I can’t support Trump because...” crap. They are nothing more than arrogant, country club snobs who had disdain for Reagan and ever other conservative they encountered. Trump has passed more of the conservative agenda than both Bushes even promised in their wildest campaign lies, ah, promises. And still these saintly snots can’t support Trump. I know Trump is not a traditional conservative and I don’t agree with everything he does but he is making great strides in the conservative agenda being implemented by his administration.
Good riddens
No it’s NOT!!
‘saintly snots’
Wordsmithery!
+1
That was a great summation. I hope VDH and McCarthy continue to have a broad outlet. They are good analysts. From what I know [not being as overall knowlegeable as you] you nailed it on all points. I have often wondered how National Review stays afloat. Trump voters have long memories.

LAWRENCE ODONNELL: Let’s listen to what Erick Erickson said today about what this means for the party.
ERICK ERICKSON: I think that if Donald Trump becomes the Republican nominee, the Republican Party ceases to be the party that I was an elected representative of so there is going to have to be the ground work for a new political party in the country that represents people who typically have been Republican voters in the past.
Nope as somone who spent since 1980 has been part of the Conservative movement, watching the Never Trumpers in action finally opened my eyse to what the supposed “Conservative Media” actually is. It is a marketing front where by the GOPE pushes their agenda down to the voters.
I finally woke up and get off the GOP-E Plantation. You should too.
I’ve been in the movement longer than that (by quite some) and I have interacted with many of its early and current leaders. It’s the conservative movement that has consistently fought the RINOs, or as we called them in an earlier time, “Rockefeller Republicans.”
The conservative media has been a large part of that.
His "show" is 3 minutes of narcassitic bloviating interrupted every 6 minutes by 3-4 minutes of news/traffic/weather. It part of the con that his "radio show" is used as a justification for his "influcence" when in fact he is just 28 minutes of filler between the traffic reports
“Sad. Red State is a well-established conservative site.”
Correction: Red State is a Never Trumper Rag Site.
A purge?
A mass Zotting?
Ridiculous.
The only people who say that are rabid NeverTrumpers.
I’ll stand for that.
That meme needs to be refuted every time it is used.
Turning off Erick Erickson is not a bad thing.
Speaking of Erickson’s radio show, their competition at 106 FM revamped their lineup, and by all accounts it is killing the competition ratings wise.
When you consider the fact that Erickson is on the oldest and by far biggest radio station in Atlanta (WSB), the fact that he is no longer #1 in his time slot is telling.
WSB is so dominant in the market, it could put a clown on and still do well. Seems like Erickson “beclowned” himself one too many times.
One may or may not agree with their position, but it's clearly a conservative choice, based on how they saw conservative principles.
Vastly different from, say, supporting Bush.
Similarly, there are conservatives who found Trump to be insufficiently conservative. Right or wrong, that is a different thing from supporting Bush or Kasich or Hillary. And if doing so made President Trump a little more conservative, then it's a positive good.
Had Free Republic been around in 1980, I'm sure there would have been FReepers who would have tried to crucify and ban the Crane supporters and have them read out of the conservative movement. In 1976, Young Americans for Freedom, in the magazine New Guard, basically read John Tower and Barry Goldwater out of the movement. That was a mistake. (Yes, I said so at the time.)
Red State has been a conservative site that has promoted conservative candidates and ideas for its entire existence. It has often been cited on this very website. Yet because of their views on one particular candidate, people deny that fact and want to destroy them. This is unproductive.
I haven't always agreed with Red State or National Review or the Washington Times or Human Events. I don't always agree with Rush or Sean or Levin, Savage, Laura Ingraham, Glen Beck., Michael Savage,or Ann Coulter or Michelle Malkin, or with any other conservative host, publication, website, or writer. I think for myself, not with"the tribe", and I have my own views.
But as President Reagan once said, "My 80 percent friend is not my 20 percent enemy." Both the Trumpers and the Never Trumpers seem to forget that. And frankly, we need each other to advance the common set of principles we share, instead of trying to eat each other. Keep that up, and the left wins. That's bad for America.
