Senate panel approves bill to protect special counsel

The Senate Judiciary Committee approved legislation on Thursday to protect special counsel Robert Mueller.

In a 14-7 vote, the panel approved the bipartisan proposal that deeply divided Republicans on the committee.

With every committee Democrat backing the legislation, only one Republican was needed to secure passage.

In the end, 4 Republicans voted for the measure.

The vote marks the first time Congress has advanced legislation to formally protect Mueller from being fired as Trump has publicly railed against him, and reportedly privately talked of firing him.

The bill, sponsored by Sens. Chris Coons (D-Del.), Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Cory Booker (D-N.J.), would codify Department of Justice regulations that say only a senior Department of Justice official can fire Mueller or another special counsel.

It would give a special counsel an "expedited review" of their firing. If a court determines that it wasn't for "good cause" they would be reinstated.

The committee also added new reporting requirements into the bill, including notification when a special counsel is appointed or removed and requiring a report be given to Congress after an investigation wraps up that details its findings and decisions to prosecute.

One more way for the crooked judges and lawyers to run every damn branch of government. All lawyers should BE BANNED FROM SERVING IN THE LEGISLATIVE AND EXECUTIVE BRANCHES OF GOVERNMEMT.

Legislature has no power to deny the chief executive of his constitutional authority.””

Agree, but the lawyers, aka the judiciary, run all branches of government.

The senate is not the problem. The lawyers and the judiciary are far and away to biggest problem in governments at all levels including states.

Hard to argue against that point...I see our “House of Lords” as driving Judiciary, the lawyers...and I’d add the FBI and CIA. McCain, for just one, is ass deep in their treason. But that’s a quibble, I have no qualm whatsoever with your point...maybe we should gather The Senate, the Justice Dept., the CIA and FBI on a mountain somewhere and let loose the “Rods from the Gods” on it.

A lot of these so-called legislations are really non-events - stage props to be used as a “news hook”.

Someone in the press actually asks congressional or senate aids, or the congressmen themselves, to think of something that they can use as a way to freshly bring up a subject that will allow to run a story that fits their narrative.

In this case, the narrative is that Trump is rumored to have suggested that he wants to fire Mueller. The MSM and other impeach Trump “resistance” types love to repeat this rumor because they think it makes Trump seem desperate or obstructive. So they look for opportunities to repeat it - or in lieu of opportunities, they craft opportunities.

They know the bill won’t get passed, or will be vetoed - but they don’t care. The point was never to enact it, the point was to provide a news hook.

In other words, fake news.

These lawyers don’t understand that Congress has no say in firing or hiring Special Counsels. Read the damn constitution.

Sounds like Mueller hasn’t been able to cover up all the treasonous acts committed by the Leadership of Both parties during the election.
