‘Ted is a fast talking legalese utilizing con man.’
Cruz is the product of alcoholic parents. Add to that the father’s desertion when Ted was at a very young, very vulnerable age. People like to imagine that drunken, irresponsible parents can raise well adjusted kids but they can’t. Alcoholism takes an unspeakable toll on kids and it doesn’t all magically dissipate once the child becomes an adult, chronologically speaking.
Cruz has a compulsive fixation on himself. His loyal is to himself. The He lies smoothly and easily. He routinely likes and tries to have things both ways.
Cruz’ support for Trump is paper thin. Any time Trump is down and under serious, genuinely dangerous attack Cruz will join in. Cruz does not see his political success as tied to Trump’s. Cruz sees a veneer of Trump support as a stepping stone toward the future Cruz desires and believes he is entitled to.
These are my personal observations and conclusions. Iow, my opinion. Other people’s opinions will vary. My only claim to any insight greater than anyone else’s is that of having known personally an individual whose upbringing and personality closely mirrors Cruz. The similarities are striking and legion.
He routinely likes and tries to have things both ways.

Not totally unusual for someone who sees himself as climbing up the ladder to the top.
Long before Cruz endorsed Trump he was dealing with the Trump campaign.
snip .......
It took Ted Cruz four months and three weeks of careful consideration, of
prayer and searching my own conscience to declare publicly that he would
vote for Donald Trump.
He made the decision to profit by selling his supporter list to Trump far
faster than that.
Just six weeks after he dropped out and more than a month before Cruz
would dramatically snub the nominee at the Republican National Convention
the senator quietly began renting his vast donor email file to his former
rival, pocketing at least tens of thousands of dollars, and more likely hundreds
of thousands, that can be used to bankroll the Texans own political future.

Ive heard theories like this before, children of alcoholic parents.
Struggling for normalcy, it would seem an obvious problem, developing all sorts of strategies to cope and adopt tweaked lifestyles.
Im no expert on it but it is something I buy into based on some things I observe in myself, my adaptations to a tweaked model of grandparents vs parents being gardians, the time of lost first relationships with parents and follow on individuals.
Ted seems tweaked to me along the lines you describe.
I agree loosely with your thoughts there.
