during a Tuesday interview with SiriusXM hosts Rebecca Mansour and Joel Pollak on Breitbart News Tonight. Mansour asked Cruz, Would you be supportive of President Trump if he ran for reelection in 2020?
Cruz replied, I certainly assume so. I was supportive of and campaigned for President Trump in 2016, and I am very encouraged with the substantive policy victories we are getting, whether it is an historic tax cut bill, whether it is regulatory reform thats unleashing jobs, whether it is repealing the Obamacare individual mandate which I led the fight to do in the United States Senate whether it is nominating and confirming strong constitutionalists to the courts. On all of those fights Ive been working to lead the battle. Im content to continue working to lead that battle and defend our freedoms and defend the Constitution.

During the 2016 election, Cruz initially opted against endorsing Trump after Trump secured the Republican Partys nomination following a heated primary race that pitted the Texas senator against the New York real estate mogul. Republican convention goers booed Cruz during his speech at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio, when he advised them to vote your conscience. Two months later, he endorsed Trump and assisted his presidential campaign.
Never Trump media figures lamented Cruzs support for Trumps campaign. Glenn Beck, a fervent Cruz supporter during the 2016 primary, described himself as profoundly sad following Cruzs endorsement of Trump, whom Beck strongly opposed. Beck later described America as a petulant child worthy of divine punishment for making the wrong choice in nominating Trump.
Since the election, Cruz has largely supported Trumps policies and agenda

No, you don’t have the tools to face up to what Cruz did.
Don’t try to pull the old Cruz con of blaming everyone else. That’s all he and Hillary do.
Now you’re doing it.
Pathetic.
Your quarrel is with that execrable toad Mitch McConnell (you know, the Senate Majority Leader), who hates Cruz as much as you do. That's some nasty company you're keeping.
If Conservatives had followed the same path to the election that Ted Cruz did, Hillary Clinton would be president right now.
That you can’t, or refuse to see this, is on you and nobody else.
Like I told you before, you have nothing worthwhile to say.
Thanks for pointing out his actual comments -
article title didn’t mention his fudging.
If he does the right thing I’ll be pleasantly suprised (sic).
The key is not to be in a position where he can ever hurt us.
NO to him replacing Sessions as AG.
NO to him on the Supreme Court.
then Cruz can be back
in 2024 with his quest for the Presidential nomination.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There are enough of us that believe in the Constitution to prevent him from becoming President.
He should forget it, he is not eligible.
I’ve got plenty of words for Mitch as well, but you don’t even know what your own dip-stick is saying in public.
Read this again. He claims to have been leading the Confirmation process. He even tossed in nominations for good measure.
I share your views there, and I appreciate your comments as well.
Glad we can agree on this one at least in part. He’s pretty dang slick for not being a Clinton.
Ok I get it...teddy bears at the border comes to my mind.
I’ve been quoting your douche bag hero.
No wonder you think I have nothing worthwhile to say. He doesn’t. I agree.
You folks who support Cruz trash everyone else for doing exactly what you are doing.
Do you work part-time for the Democrats? They do that all the time.
You day we don’t know what we are talking about, so we quote Ted. Then you say we have nothing worthwhile to say.
Thanks for agreeing with me that Ted has nothing worthwhile to say.
We do have common ground after all.
He changed his tune because he knows his future is precarious.
I read the article. Turtleface and Schumer run the Senate, in case you hadn’t noticed. Your very legitimate gripe is with them.
“And anti-Cruz idiots on this forum will celebrate as the democRAT Senate convicts Trump under articles of impeachment approved by the democRAT House ... “
One can hate Ted Cruz and still support other Republicans in 2018.
There’s no conflict there.
Hell, somebody can hate Ted Cruz and still vote for him.
Your hyperbole is juvenile.
Ted Cruz said he was leading the confirmation process.
Either he doesn’t grasp what you are tying to point out to me, or he is a damned liar.
Take your pick.
I wouldn't want Beck for all the bread in Bakersfield.
If you don't support Trump Cruz, you're supporting Hillary Beto.
In case you hadn't noticed, the Republicans hold exactly 51 Senate seats ... and some of them are real sleazeballs like McConnell, McCain, Corker, Flake. We can't afford to lose any of those seats. If you don't support Cruz, you're supporting loss of the Senate to Schumer and his pals. We already know that the democRATS intend to impeach Trump. Some of those "Republican" sleazeballs will go along with them.
You want that?
No?
Then act like it.
I don’t support Ted, but if he can win his district, so be it.
We shouldn’t work against him. I don’t act like McConnell and others when it comes to numbers, we have to hold the Senate.
What Ted does to himself, he’ll have to deal with.
I wouldn’t have minded seeing him upended in the primary, but that’s our only opening to try for something better.
Be glad Cruz is leading it. If he left it to your pals Turtleface and Choomer, NO judges would be confirmed.
State.
Texas is a State.
Senators represent States, not Districts.
But you already knew that ...
We shouldnt work against him.
So DON'T. Quit trashing him at every turn. You're working against your stated interests ... and you wonder why I use words like "idiot" and "delusional" to describe Cruz-haters?
Geez ...
Goodbye.
Somebody can hate Ted Cruz and still vote for him.
This is the exact concept I have been trying to get through that pointy little head of yours. Substitute Cruz and Beto with Trump and Clinton, and you express exactly what I have been trying to explain to you for over an hour now.
Are you capable of understanding that?
What you trash non-supporters of Cruz for hypothetically doing this fall, Cruz actually did in the 2016 election process. Never the less you trash folks for not supporting Cruz now, but don't have one word of criticism for Cruz not supporting Trump then.
For the record, I have not asked anyone to work against Ted in the upcoming election. It is a given that we work to replace people in primaries, not turn the seat over to the Democrats in the election.
Judge Roy Moore is a notable exception to the rule, where the RNC and leading Republicans worked tooth and nail to make sure he was defeated in the election.
They gladly gave up an (R) seat to the Democrats.
