Cotton picker
The mechanical cotton picker is a machine that automates cotton harvesting in a way that reduces harvest time and maximizes efficiency. Mechanical cotton picking began to be practical in 1944, when International Harvester produced the first dozen of their successful commercial cotton pickers.

The mechanical RICE picker, on the other hand, can do outstanding feats of tissue realignment without the need for costly surgery.

The cotton picker didn’t completely replace the human until the 60’s.

The first, and last time I saw Darkies picking cotton the old fashioned way was on a trip by bus through South central Arkansas in 1968. I thought I was in the OLD SOUTH for a moment.

Most places out West Texas were using mechanical pickers.
