May the friendship and alliance between the United States of America and France last forever.
bttt
Looks crooked.
This photo reminds me of a Jon McNaughton painting.
A great photo.
Victor Orban should have gotten a state dinner first.
I’m sure they will stake it and plumb it.
I like both dresses.
The native plant people will be upset.
I saw this on Fox, Brigitte acted like she was itching to get in there with a shovel, but they didn’t let the gals join in.
Nice gesture from France.
Yes, I totally agree.
It is a native plant. Native to Belleau Woods where 9,000 US Marines died in WWI.
Tree hugger’s don’t like this gesture, they can come see me.
Melania is smokin' in that outfit...just sayin'.
Oooorah! The Marine Brigades!
In 1918, Marines of the Fifth and Sixth Regiments, by their heroic deeds of valor, inscribed the names of momentous and brilliant battles on the pages of Marine Corps history, as well as on their own regimental battle colors. They have the single honor of being the only two regiments in the American Expeditionary Force to receive three citations—two in the Orders of the Army and one in the Orders of the Corps—the Fourragere and the Croix de Guerre with two Palms and one Gilt Star.
How totally bizarre. This morning over coffee a retiree was speaking of his dad who fought on the USS Belleau Wood.
Against attacking Japanese Zero’s. As a gunner.
Later on he served as an officer on the SS Runner 2. What I couldn’t get over was how he was described as a very hard man. So I decided to look up the history of the carrier.
I had never heard of an aircraft carrier called Belleau Wood and I had never heard of the battle of Belleau Wood in World War 1. Naturally I did my homework. Google is great.. ..sometimes.
And then I promptly flushed the history minutiae away in my memory.
I thought I would never touch it again. And then I see this! Many many thanks for posting this. I never would have known about this probably but for this posting.
How long is it going to be before the name Trump and Reagan are put together over and over and over as a matter of routine? I predict Within 36 months.
People have already done that. NONE of the MSM have openly done it.
The photo itself struck me, it is great photography.
I regret I did not post a brief explanation of the Battle of Belleu Wood in the post. It was an oversight.
Thanks.
What an odd and compelling photo, can’t put my finger on the why of it but that one just seems, well, historic. I’m no fan of Macron, nice diplomatic gesture but nothing really earthshaking about it, so it’s something else. Melania looks like she’s literally walking on air. Bridgitte Macron seems to be finally growing up with her own attire, she looks well turned out and appropriate, unlike some of her previous efforts that seemed to have come out of a teenager’s closet. That wide stance though, Michelle Obama used to do that. Somebody’s coaching them, weird as it looks and weird as that sounds. Toni Morrison stuff, dominating space.
Quercus petraea, commonly known as the sessile oak, Cornish oak, or durmast oak, is a species of oak tree native to most of Europe and into Anatolia and Iran. The sessile oak is an unofficial emblem in Wales and Cornwall.
Thank you for that. I know about trees that grow well in Texas and the native trees of Texas. But outside the region, I’m not very good at it.
The significance of the trees from Belleau Woods and the intertwined French & American national history should always be recognized. This was a thoughtful act.
Awesome pic.
