Try a nice lager
I’m with you on that. Barley, malt and hops only. NO FRUIT in beer or ale.
Yes.

IPAs are considered “ale”, not “beer” legally and so aren’t restricted to the alcohol content that “beer” is.
The Belgian Trappist ales can be pretty strong.
The Rochefort “10” is about 11.3% ABV
The strongest I’ve had is Schorschbräu Schorschbock 57 @ 57% ABV
What was that ale flavored vodka or straight grain with a hint of ale?
I learned about Anchor Steam when I worked on a ship in San Francisco. I introduced the beer to students at the Maritime College in Maine, about 25 years ago. I learned that those students still drink the beer now and then. (The students were all over 21)
It is the best, I agree.

Years ago Texas beers really sucked and those damn liberals in Washington and Oregon were turning out first class brew. I resented drinking it but refuse to drink bad beer.
Today in Texas we have many micro brewers that turn out brew as good as anywhere in the world. I lived in England for a few years and know what a good beer is. We have it in Texas now! Our beers would be very acceptable in any English pub.
I do not like the high alcohol beers. It seems to me that the higher alcohol content dulls the taste buds to the real flavor. I want my beer above 5% ABV but less than 7% ABV.
I lived in the bay area during the early nineties. That was the epicenter of craft and homebrewing. I won some awards back then.
Nothing wrong with Anchor Steam. It’s one of the first draft beers.
Thanks for posting. I’ll have to try some. The best 6+% beer I’ve had is Zombie Dust (3 Floyds)

I am enjoying a Desutes fresh squeezed IPA as we speak.
I read a while ago the nation now has more breweries than it did in 1890 which was the high point before the big companies started consolidating the industry ... and forcing us to drink their swill.
I think it was rebottled JP-8
