I am amazed, reading through the posts here, the avarice and greed displayed. Southwest is probably the best airline in the business. They have an exemplary record, and their crew did their jobs professionally and got that damaged aircraft on the ground with no further loss of life. Yet here you all are, disparaging the airline for trying to do what is right and proper. Getting the $hit scared out of you isn't a million dollar deal. Southwest will have to cover a whole lot more with respect to the woman who died, but this was a one in a million catastrophic failure and unless it can be proven otherwise that's all it was. It's a shame that we've gotten to the point where every inconvenience is grounds for a lawsuit.

After having gone through a lawsuit - a process I don’t wish on anyone - I can tell you that the problem is lawyers. Even my own. They all have an awful, warped worldview. The whole thing is a game of “how much can you get” on one side and “how much can you limit what they get” on the other. It really is a game to them and that’s the problem. Things that happen to people like this are just an excuse for them to play their game and rack up billable hours doing so.

I, too, was amazed at how some "conservatives" turned in to MSNBC fans in this situation. Yes, of course firms that run afoul should pay a price. No self-respecting free-marketer would argue otherwise. But SWA is generally regarded as the best-run airline in America. You don't read about their employees berating passengers, etc.

In this case - which was truly tragic - SWA do the right thing and go above and beyond WITHOUT GOVERNMENT THREATS, which is what free-marketers argue is the BEST approach.

I applaud SWA and would gladly fly them any day over that NRA-hating Delta.

Well said Vette.

I fully agree with you. I for one will continue to happily fly Southwest, beginning Tuesday.

I fly them rather often for work and haven’t had a bad experience.

The industry has devolved to making flight travel not the perfect customer experience. It is what it is, but they aren’t out to destroy you.

I agree. Best airline in the business. Pretty much if SWA doesnt fly there we either drive or dont go at all. 57 years, probably millions of passengers, one fatality. I will take those odds any day. Well done SWA.

Thank you for that, at least the jerks had the good sense not to argue with what you said.

WELL SAID! Much better than the irate post I was about to make. I expect these types of greedy, "I've just hit the Tort Jackpot!" comments from DU or the MSM crowd, but it is disheartening to read them on FR!
