Some passengers on the Southwest Airlines flight that experienced a deadly engine failure this week told ABC News they received money and the promise of a travel voucher from the airline.

Ping
Anybody subsequently think this is a stupid thing? Offering money and travel vouchers while the passengers thought they were all going to die?
Some guy on local DFW news already said he felt insulted by the offer.
Hopefully some free pretzels too
And what did the pilot get? She deserves to be the CEO of Southwest after what she did..
And I bet way in the itty bitty fine print you agree not to sue Southwest if you accept anything from them.
What I was thinking.
peanuts
What’s wrong with exchanging your right to sue for a cool $5k in cash and another G in free air travel? All reports say that the type of engine failure can happen in nearly any plane and the crew performed BEYOND admirably in getting everyone on the ground safely. Not only will I still fly Southwest, I think their offer is plenty generous. This is why company’s have insurance. Might as well use it and give the passengers something for not trying to be greedy and get more in a lawsuit.
Wow - 5K per - that’ll make up for what was lost when Southwest resisted doing engines inspections the way the FAA wanted them to......
Just be happy some offshoot of david hogg dont show up
Yeah the first thing I want to do is get back on another one of your planes!
Please clarify.
Has it been determined that the Engine was not Inspected as is required by the Manufacturers Maintenance Schedule?
My Brother used to be an A & P Mechanic. Failing to follow Maintenance Schedules would have been a Career ending move.
Never heard of any other Airline compensating Passengers after an Inflight Emergency outside of offering them a Travel Voucher and Hotel Stay.
these passengers survived....
but its always nice to get extra money...
Dont mean to diminish what she did but flying a plane with one engine is one of the most routine trainings a pilot undergoes. In fact the autopilot will do most of the flying right up to the point of touchdown. To her credit she gets points for not freaking out , or at least not showing it.
Not even close to the truth. The NPRM didn’t go far enough. SWA wanted inspections on ALL fan blades over 18 months instead of once in a 12 month period. SWA decided to do ultrasonic inspections on all fan blades in 2017 and exceeded CFM’s recommendations. The new FAA AD issued on all CFM56 engines and CFM directive; SWA meets and exceeds these.
SWA checks every fan blade every 3000 cycles which exceeds any directive from CFM and the FAA.
I read, somewhere, that the $5K is for counseling, for those seated in the immediate area of the victim.
And, that the $1K is to (hopefully) encourage them to fly, again.
I don’t think they had to sign a release, to receive the $$.
Not sure if any of this is true. If I can find link, I’ll post.
It absolutely has not.
Sounds like you may have close intel.
What is your take, as to the cause of the blade malfunction ... or cause of engine explosion/failure?
Thanks.
