Kim Jong-un Plans Formal Nod to Denuclearization, South Korea Says

SEOUL, South Korea - Kim Jong-un, North Korea’s leader, plans to formally announce his willingness to denuclearize his country when he meets with President Moon Jae-in of South Korea this month, an official from the South said on Tuesday.

The statement is expected to be part of a joint declaration that the two leaders will adopt when they meet on April 27, said Mr. Moon’s chief of staff, Im Jong-seok. Negotiators from both Koreas have agreed on a rough framework for the joint declaration, he said.

They are still discussing other aspects of the joint statement, such as whether the two Koreas would commit to holding summit meetings on a regular basis, Mr. Im said. South Korea is also trying to convince North Korea that Mr. Moon and Mr. Kim should hold a joint news conference at the end of their meeting in Panmunjom, the so-called truce village on the inter-Korean border.

If necessary, Mr. Moon’s national security adviser, Chung Eui-yong, and his spy chief, Suh Hoon, will visit the North Korean capital, Pyongyang, again to resolve any significant issues before the summit meeting, Mr. Im said.

North Korean and United States officials have also been holding talks in preparation for their leaders’ meeting, during which American officials have said the North reaffirmed a willingness to discuss denuclearization. But it is still unclear what Mr. Kim would seek in return for abandoning nuclear arms, and whether those demands would be acceptable to Washington.

Part of me thinks Kim Jong-Un just wants to have a nice villa on the French Riviera and live like a Rock Star.

I just hope the Sorks trust the Norks enough to allow Trump to pull our troops out. If they do they’re naive. Not our problem.

He’s a mass murderer. He cannot be allowed to just be part of civilized society.
You don’t put your family, associates and perceive enemies in front of anti aircraft guns and pull the trigger and expect to be able to live happily ever after in society. He would be put in the class of Goering or Goebbles or even Hitler. If he sticks his nose outside North Korea he must hang.

I often wondered if he’s just a figurehead and somebody else is pulling the strings in the background.

He rarely gives any speeches.

I think I see where this is all going. Kim and Moon decide to peace agreement maybe even unification. Then Trump and Kim have their talk. Kim says he will denuke but only if US troops leave the peninsula. Trump says only if you denuke first, Kim disagrees and says all plans of peace with the south is off the table. Now the international community will look at Trump as the spoiler for peace agreement. This whole thing may be nothing more than a stunt by Kim and his Chinese masters.

I share your skepticism, but am hoping for the best. Trump is leading a strong foreign policy team. I doubt Bolton or Pompeo will settle for anything short of total de-nuke by Fat Boy. With that, I would remove US troops over time.

My FIL served in both WWII and Korea, and he feared the NK/Chinese till the day he died.

I don’t want all of our soldiers who gave all during the Korean (Police Action) War to have died in vain because the USA was double crossed and gave away all leverage. I don’t trust the Norks, Chicoms, or to a lessor extent South Korean politicians.

Remember who visited Moon after Trumps inauguration, that’s right, zero himself. This could all be a pre-planned stunt by world powers and the DC swamp.

He wants a deal like Obama gave Iran, i.e., he'll change his nuclear program to a point where it can be brought back to its current state in 6 months if we'll give him $$$,$$$,$$$,$$$,$$$ and agree to no American inspections.

Agree. He'll denuclearize, at least on paper. Then when SK & NK agree to work together as a single entity, his regime will overrun the south and take over the combined nation. And later, declare the denuke agreement invalid and proceed to build nukes. Fat boy needs to die, along with his regime.

They keep touting the dictators “willingness” to do something, which absent the conditions he will demand for doing is absolutely meaningless and meaningless reporting. It is a “teaser” with no substance as to what it requires and what it would require is everything, because it can mean the “willingness” is worthless if the demands are senseless to us; which I suspect they will be.

Meanwhile Kim and his lackeys in the western media keep repeatedly touting “Kim is willing”, “Kim is willing”, “Kim is willing”. Why? Because they want to telescope that empty-of-substance willingness as everything, expecting to then hang failure on Trump when it proves to be empty of meaningful substance, beyond a demand to an end to the U.S.-South Korea alliance.
