'Syria attack didn't resolve anything but preserved int'l honor'

French President Emmanuel Macron defended his country’s participation in a massive missile strike over the weekend, which saw more than 100 missiles fired from US, British, and French ships and aircraft at sites used by the Assad regime’s chemical weapon program.

The three countries struck eight targets at three separate facilities over the weekend a week after the Syrian government allegedly used sarin nerve gas and chlorine gas to kill dozens of civilians in a suburb of Damascus.

The Western allies informed the Kremlin of the attacks ahead of time, allowing Russia to remove its forces from the targeted compounds and surrounding areas. Russia is allied with both Iran and the Assad regime, and critics have suggested that the prior notification of the attacks limited their effectiveness.

On Tuesday, Macron suggested during an address to the European parliament that the missile strikes likely did not “resolve anything” in the region, but were nevertheless “important” for preserving the ‘honor of the international community’.

“Those who are shocked by images of women, of children who have been attacked by chlorine, we need to stand up to defend our rights. What are we going to say, our rights and principles are just for us? No, that simply isn’t acceptable,” Macron said, according to AFP.

“These strikes don’t necessarily resolve anything but I think they were important,” said Macron, adding that the missile attack upheld “the honor of the international community”.

Syria may now resume shooting, incinerating and blowing people to smithereens as approved by the League of Nations.

Not if they store it in two components so it remains inert until ready to bring death and destruction on Kurdish infants. But if they don’t, well...

My username is inviting such silly comments.

The reason is for you to go beyond crude insults. Eurotwits. White trash. any of that.

But, you never can go beyond it.

Because you are evil, and you have zero arguments.

Good news for you.

You will probably not be held to account in this life as the world is burning in your wake.

Hopefully, you will burn in the next life.

Inshalla.

It was a fake retaliation to a fake attack. Everybody is happy except those fools among us who still believe honesty is the best policy.

There is no happy solution. Maybe there is no solution at all. In that case, Spinoza says that there’s no problem.

bert: So, gassing Arabs is ok but gassing Jews is not? -- what? how are the two related?

Not at all -- firstly, you do remember that it was the Germans who killed Jews (along with Gypsies, Poles, Russians etc) not in war, but in a slaughter house. Here there is a war going on

Secondly, there is no proof that Assad used the weapons now as opposed to another one of the jihadirebels using it

Thirdly, where did Eleutheria say it was ok? She just said that the missile attack seemed to her to now make no sense.

I don't see why Israel has to be the world's conscience.

There is a solution: the USA/UK/France to stay out of Syria, stop training and supplying weapons to the jihadirebels. This was done by Obama and McCain and Trump has thankfully stopped that

In Greek, theria (θερια) is feminine, but it means 'critter' and is not a proper name.

Also, provide refuge for the Christians, Yazidis, and other persecuted minorities. Israel could do that, although America would be better. As for Europe, at this point what difference would it make. The Christians there are being persecuted, too, and they’re in the majority.

A better alternative for Israel would be the creation of a purely Christian state in the south of Lebanon and West of Syria. Keep an Alawite state in Latakia.

Christians are the majority in some parts of Europe, not in all - in the UK for instance, teh majority are non-believers

Lebanon was originally meant to be an eastern Christian homeland, and there once was an Alawite state. As for the Yazidis, they’d probably be model citizens on any continent, once they learn about flush toilets and such.

England might be mostly lapsed Christians, but they pay taxes to support the Church of England, and each citizen belongs to a parish, so the mechanism is in place for a revival. What they need is a new sort of politician, a cross between DJT and Winston Churchill, to replace the rabid poodles of Labour and TINOs like May.

So Syria could be carved up between the Christians and the Alawites and the Kurds in an ideal world. But neither Assad, Hizbollah, Russia or Iran will hear of it.

Syria’s capacity to make nerve gas was unaffected.

It's not just the 'gas', it's containerizing it inside some kind of weapon and storing them for use later.

I could make chlorine gas in an empty soda bottle.

If I blew up hour house, with you in it, how many soda bottles of chlorine could you make ?

If “I” were the Syrian government, one chlorine-gas-making peon would be down. A few thousand would still be at it, and they’d hire more tomorrow.

Using your logic, then it does not make any sense to prosecute any crimes in the US. I mean, if you put to death a murderer, and there are still a few thousand people who will commit murders, then why bother ?

Apples and oranges. The question isn’t how to stop all murders, but whether a military action that could lead to a confrontation with Russia was justified. Degrading production of chemical weapons would not be sufficient justification, because chemical weapon materials are remarkably easy to make under very primitive conditions. “International honor”? HA!

The only conceivable justification would be that it degraded chemical weapons delivery capabilities, which an air strike could do, but this air strike did not necessarily do. According to Mossad’s damage assessment, it mattered hardly at all, if that. So all that’s left is “international honor”. HA! and again HA! in that case. At least they tried to do something militarily relevant in order to deter, while “upholding” international “honor”. That’s the best I can say.

And the whole thing could have been a prearranged kabuki dance for the media, with Russia and Trump...ah...colluding in this instance, and if the alleged chemical attack was really a false flag, that might have been the right thing to do.
