Trump’s war powers to be limited under new Senate resolution
The Washington Times ^ | April 16, 2018 | Stephen Dinan

U.S. troops could continue fighting the Taliban and al Qaeda and would be given explicit new permission to battle the Islamic State — but would not be authorized to attack the capabilities of any nation state, such as Syria — under updated rules of war proposed by a bipartisan group of senators Monday.

Led by Sen. Bob Corker, chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, the new Authorization for the Use of Military Force would replace 2001 and 2002 AUMFs that started the war on terror and paved the way for the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

The commander in chief — in this case President Trump — would be authorized to keep up the fight against a long list of international terrorist organizations that were either affiliated with or spun off of al Qaeda, including the Haqqani Network, al Shabaab and the Al Nusrah Front.

There are days when I am not sure who I despise more, Democrats or establishment Republicans.

"When did Syria attack us?"

They didn't...but I am sure that the US is signatory to treaties requiring us to join to chastise nations who use chemical weapons. This has been international law since WWI.

“All President’s unilateral war making power is excessive.”

I think so too.

Bush’s mistake was not getting a “Declaration of War” voted on by Congress.

Traitors are more despicable than the enemy.

Technically Libya was a UN operation which resulted in devastating consequences. Without US support, it would not have happened. Clinton pushed hard for REGIME CHANGE. The reasons are still murky as to why the operation was carried out beside BS “humanitarian reasons” and stupid worthless UN resolutions. The whole Obama era Arab Spring with the fall of Libya led to the rise of ISIS. Repeating the same scenario in Syria would be insane. I guess the bottom line is that Congress should be better consulted but their judgment sucks also. I don’t trust this government be it the Donkey or Elephant.

They never got around to reigning in Obama and Hillary while they armed ISIS all over the Middle East to go around raping, murdering, plundering, torturing children, and committing genocide against Christians.

First and foremost I despise Democrats. GOPe comes in a very close second. To my mind there are way too many of these people, although a few are being slowly weeded out.

One good thing is that Trump is slowly remaking the Republican Party into what it should be in the modern age. Nothing succeeds like success. MAGA

In our system, Congress is us. Wars that we don’t support, we don’t win.

It’s really that simple.

Everyday it is a new revelation as people expose themselves.

People who I had respected and admired for years are proving to be slugs...

MAGA!!

Our US Constitution REQUIRES Congress deliberate and vote on initiating Acts of War. The POTUS is not King.
Bombing Syria, a sovereign nation that made no aggressive move toward the USA, was an ilegitimate attack who’s precedent will empower China, Russia, Turkey and others to attack nations with impunity.

RE:”I also don’t want to see executive power curtailed by a bunch of petty senators, regardless of who is in the White House.”

Why do these grandstanding losers despise President Trump and all who voted for him? What seditionist losers. May they all suffer being rolled through eternity by dung beetles.

Hal tosis, try to stay on point and avoid spewing silly talk.

Seriously, what pray tell is wrong with adhering to the US Constitution by having US Congress deliberate and vote on initiating an act of war?

We conservatives rightly howled at Obola for trying to initiate a war against Syria, remember that?

Law, precedent and moral authority matters, right?
