Trump puts the brakes on new Russian sanctions, reversing Haley’s announcement

President Trump on Monday put the brakes on a preliminary plan to impose additional economic sanctions on Russia, walking back a Sunday announcement by U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley that the Kremlin had swiftly denounced as “international economic raiding.”

Preparations to punish Russia anew for its support of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s government over the alleged chemical weapons attack in Syria caused consternation at the White House. Haley had said on CBS News’s “Face the Nation” that sanctions on Russian companies behind the equipment related to Assad’s alleged chemical weapons attack would be announced Monday by Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin.

But Trump conferred with his national security advisers later Sunday and told them he was upset the sanctions were being officially rolled out because he was not yet comfortable executing them, according to several people familiar with the plan.

Point taken, but he did campaign on a relatively consistent message.

“Is it possible that they can’t pin that staged chemical attack on Assad?”

They certainly can’t pin a motive for the attack on Assad. And, as far as I’m concerned, even if Assad did do it, I don’t think it’s worth starting WW3 over...but then maybe it’s because I have kids.

Why doesn’t haley (and her family members) join the military and volunteer to fight in hot spots? I guess that is expecting too much. She is quick to want others to die for her.

Yea, she is definitely an energetic one - hopefully Trump can get some control over her, since that is the kind of person needed at the UN. But if she keeps this crap up, then time for the hook.

I watched a small snippet on the news about veterans. A World War II veteran in his nineties mentioned that he had known veterans from World War I and the Boxer War. The Boxer War! I didn’t know that the USA had even been involved the Boxer Rebellion. That was around 1901. What were we doing in China in 1901? What was our patriotic duty to be in China at that time anyway?

The Boxer Rebellion was a disgraceful attack on China by Britain, France, Germany, Russia, the USA and Japan when China was very weak. We were part of a bunch of vultures who descended on China to rob them of everything that could be taken. This was an early example of America joining globalists in their imperialistic ventures.

Fake news or Putin bowed to Trump. My money goes that that little POS is desperately trying to save his puny face.

The Boxers were killing US missionaries (whether they should have been there or not is another discussion!) and were destroying US property. (Again whether sending in the Marines or not was a proper response is another discussion.) This was back in the day when harming US citizens or are destroying, seizing their property might draw a vigorous USG response.

Russia has many pipelines going into Europe and there is now a pipeline coming up from the south, I believe it comes from Qatar. It is going through Iraq, then the northeast corner of Syria, then Turkey and Europe. You don’t suppose that the anti Assad fury can have anything to do with that, could it?

Probably all of them. The Neocons here think that some Islamic Thomas Jefferson will arise from the ashes if we just get rid of Assad. Just as they thought in Iraq, Egypt, Libya, and Iran (decades ago).

I hate to break it to the Neocons, but there are no Thomas Jeffersons in the Middle East (other than in Israel), and you’re only going to get more BLOODBATHS and ETHNIC CLEANSING by taking out the remaining leaders.

What we would get if Assad was removed would be a horror show of Sunni majority slaughtering Alawite and Christian minorities in the most hideous fashion as we have seen Isis beheading children, crucifying children burning people in cages etc. etc. This is far worse hands on cruelty.

If Assad fell, the cameras would quickly leave Syria so that American audiences would not see the atrocities that would follow. Just as the cameras left South Africa after apartheid ended. Now thousands of white farmers and their families have ben tortured to death in their homes and South Africa’s infrastructure and economy it falling apart as crime rises. But where is the Western media when you need them?

“If Assad fell, the cameras would quickly leave Syria so that American audiences would not see the atrocities that would follow.”

Cambodia is the classic example of that. Our side got defeated and millions were summarily executed. Did the Left EVER apologize for taking the wrong side? Have they ever, ever, apologized?

The New York Times STILL hasn’t apologized for running what may have been the fakest news of all time when Walter Duranty told Americans daily, in the 1930s, that Stalin’s Soviet Union was a PARADISE and with that THOUSANDS of Americans, many taking their families moved to start new lives there...only to perish a few years later when Stalin looked at them as spies and sent them off the gulags.

This is OUR ENEMY. It’s depressing that they’re able to reel-in so many conservatives over Syria, who, I guess trust the policies of Hillary/Obama more than the platform that Trump ran on...even though they have NOTHING to show for those policies regarding Iraq, Libya, and Egypt.

That’s the point.....giving Trump room he ends up as he has campaigned or better. The idea is to understand how he works to get there and that escapes many..thus the many knee jerk reactions when it doesn’t ‘look like’ it.
