Quebec warned the federal government on Monday that it has reached the limit of its capacity process undocumented asylum seekers entering Canada through Quebec and will enforce that limit in its temporary shelters beginning April 24.
Quebec has 1,850 spaces in its four temporary shelters in Montreal, and 75 per cent of those spaces are already occupied. Quebec Immigration Minister David Heurtel said Monday that capacity will not be allowed to pass 85 per cent in order to maintain space and resources to accommodate those asylum seekers who used regular channels to enter the country.
The number of undocumented asylum seekers tripled last year, and the rate seems to have been accelerating since the start of 2018, with three times as many entries recorded since the start of the year than during the 2017 period.
Quebec is arguing that its housing, health and social services and educational network are already stretched to the limit, and the flow of asylum seekers will now have to be limited.
Heurtel refused to say outright if the shelters will be closed to new arrivals. But he said the province would advise the federal government when there is no longer any space available.
The minister will be in Ottawa on Wednesday to demand a federal contingency plan on the issue. Noting that Quebec was the entry point for half of all the undocumented migrants who came to Canada last year, Heurtel said he will ask Ottawa to work on a plan to redirect any overflow to centres other than Montreal.

If it keeps up Canadians will be seeking asylum from Canada.
Always nice to hear about our well-meaning but feeble-minded neighbors to the north.
Ditto that!
Even some liberals are starting to understand that the open borders Welfare State is a national suicide pact.
A person can easily...*very* easily...step over that line in either direction. And it's less that a mile from the end of I-91.
Lots of illegals coming in from central america and haiti via the mexican border. I think they flow through the US and risk our border in the summer. Noticed a lot of them lately in my neighbourhood. Useless, the lot of them.
Their only skills are drinking, being a blight on the streets, and going an inordinate amount of time without a proper bath.
...there’s a white line on a street that says “US/Canada”...
I’d guess 90% of the border is the same way.
Yeah, Hongcouver was what I was talking about.
Aside from the Chinese billionaires buying up houses as a hedge, what I understood was that most of the Asians there were just using it as a waystation to get into the US.
So since we already absorbed way too many of their buds, we need to encourage them to keep on going South into Central and South America. They’ll be happier there, the Mestizos are related to them. They just left Asia a lot earlier...
I see no reason to cede Vancouver and BC to them anyway, they had nothing to do with making it what it is.
Which of course is the same way I feel about Southern California and the Mestizo occupation of that land, the current state of development having had NOTHING to do with them, and is in fact IN SPITE OF THEM.
I’m sure a real Canadian like you feels exactly the same way about the formerly beautiful and serene land of Western British Columbia.
"App helps prepare illegal immigrants in best-case scenario"
This app is to help once INS/ICE has caught up with them, right?
Well, so ya have too many ‘’asylum seekers’’, eh? Well good on ya, ya hosers. Yer always after telling us we’re a bunch of racists fer not takin’ ‘em all in.
Before the Winter Olympics even back in high school, I would take the public bus to Whistler just to snowboard. After the Olympics, its become a tourist trap with too many foreigners and no more place to shred.
Just to prove it’s Hongcouver, you know your ATM starts with English or Spanish right? In Vancouver ATM’s, there is NO such thing as “Spanish”. They are a minority. But the top choice is not English either...it’s Mandarin.
My daughter-in-law is from Calgary. I’ve been there. Yeah, it’s nice. But I wouldn’t want to live there. Neither does she. She became a naturalized citizen ten years ago and has no desire to go back.
“its Mandarin”
Gakk *spit*
Nosferatu...sign of the cross...
Bet all the libs think it’s multi-culti hip...
My GF is from Newfoundland originally but we met in BC. Yeah, she loves to visit family but live there? Doesnt want to. Same as me. Like I posted, the good part about the local cops in BC/ Vancouver is they see you are an illegal, they arrest you on the spot and deport you asap.
When I lived in Montreal in the 1980s, at the time a city of 2 million, there were about 30 murders per year. Half of them were committed by the small, nay microscopic, Haitian population. The rest were mostly biker killings.
The Haitians were concentrated in a section of town called "Little Burgundy" for some reason. It was the only part of Montreal that was unsafe.
You can take the Haitian out of Haiti, but you can't take the Haiti out of Haitians. It is genetic.
The difference between the Chinese there and the mexicans here. The Chinese OWN the city but the mexicans in L.A THINK they own the city. Most of the mexicans there are well-educated and assimilated unlike here.
Yea, I believe that. A bit better class of aliens...but I’d prefer the average blonde Russian.
Lemme know when a city in China becomes ethnically Caucasian and they allow them to be the dominant economic group.
Fat chance.
USA has reached its limit also. Its not sustainable fiscally and they are leveraging our elections to the DNC. I personally hate these dreaming illegals who flaunt our laws and suck our money. The groups that are accessory to these lawbreakers should be severely punished.
Well my my, liberal Quebec is shutting the doors to immigrants. The praise will NOT fall upon them very well.
Yuh think? (Have they considered north of Arctic Circle?)
