Should we bomb Syria? (There are good arguments on both sides)
American Thinker ^ | 04/13/2018 | J. Marsolo

The Media and Mueller are obsessed with trivial issues such as did Michael Cohen use a home equity loan to give Stormy Daniels $130,000 to keep quiet about a possible one night stand 12 years ago with Donald Trump, and whether this is an unlawful campaign contribution by Cohen. It is not a campaign contribution, but the facts do not matter to the Media/Mueller. Moreover, what does this have to with “Russian collusion” to affect the 2016 election?

In the real world, President Trump has to decide whether to bomb Syria to punish it because Assad used chemical weapons to kill Syrians. As we all know this is a complicated civil war in Syria with Assad, aided by Iran and Russia, fighting the rebels.

For the sake of argument, let us assume that Assad ordered the use of chemical weapons to kill. Why should we then bomb Syria?

The arguments to bomb Syria is that the United States as the leader of the free world cannot allow Assad to use chemical weapons. This is essentially a moral argument, especially today, the day of Holocaust remembrance. Hitler used chemical and other weapons to kill six million Jews, millions of Gypsies, homosexuals, Catholic and Protestant clergy, and others in the concentration camps.

If we were not at war with Nazi Germany while this was happening, we should have, according to the moral argument, bombed Germany to stop the killings. It should not matter that Hitler killed millions but Assad killed far less.

The argument against bombing Syria is a practical one. The bombing will not kill Assad or his generals but will kill Syrians unlucky to be at the military sites we bomb.

RE: Explain to me what has changed?

Trump was elected President and he occupies the position he did not occupy before. It’s very easy to opine when you are not in power.

No action without definitive proof of exactly who was involved and their motive.

Democrats would like nothing better than for Trump to get into another quagmire in the Middle East so they can blame Trump for another quagmire in the Middle East.

Notice how no Democrats are pushing for military action. They're praying he launches a strike but they want to be on record as not calling for or supporting a strike. If he does they'll hammer him for it in the midterms and 2020.

It's a trap.

Proceed with extreme caution.

No, there aren’t good arguments for us to bomb Syria.

Even if you went on the stupid suppositions of this article—that the gassing happened and Assad ordered it.

We blow the enemy to bits with missiles and bombs and now we should bomb the hell out of the enemy because he uses gas?

Bert is not able to post proof that Assad is a war criminal.

Time after time the insurgency has accused the Syrian government of chemical warfare, only to have the hoax exposed. Nobody believes it is true now.

You know what. Send a couple damn missiles but alert all the Russians and Syrian personnel prior to it. Take down a couple empty building. All will be theater to placate the war party.

Tucker last night revealed we killed 500 Russians previously. I was a little shocked by that. The Russians gave us a pass, thank God. Even if the Russians were NOT there, I still can’t see a good reason to stop what is Muslims killing Muslims.

Indeed upon all these weak standards we should be bombing Mexico, the UK, and even Turkey. All of them are fu...er...screwing around with the US.

Why waste money and missiles on nothing? If Syria really did it, send the missile to the RIGHT SPORT -— Where the Chemical weapons are being developed, not empty buildings.

Indeed...if your government was in the midst of a coup, would you send soldiers to some far away shit in the mud place to enact regime change?

No you still have it wrong.

Planes and helicopters don’t gas people. Military officers and their leaders gas people.

The targets must be the leaders and officers that make the action orders.

You mean the February 7th one? Why do you apologize for the US troops for defending themselves? Russians were warned not to attack, but they did it anyway.

This is such a tough call. On the one hand, there don’t seem to be any righteous sides in Syria, and the Middle East is a cauldron of people who hate everybody. On the other hand, if using chemical weapons becomes acceptable, it may be used on our troops in the future. I will just have to trust that President Trump, if given accurate information, will make the right decision.

Not a bad option as well. Would be a win for Trump. “See, chemical weapons destroyed. No need to follow up”
