CANBERRA, Australia — Australia and New Zealand warned China on Tuesday against building any military base in the South Pacific, following media reports that the Chinese have proposed a permanent stronghold in Vanuatu.
Fairfax Media reported that China had approached the former French colony about building a permanent military presence in the South Pacific.
China and Vanuatu denied the reports. Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said Vanuatu also assured his government that “no such request has been made” by China.
“We would view with great concern the establishment of any foreign military bases in those Pacific island countries and neighbors of ours,” Turnbull told reporters.

I was talking to a local here about the US military on Guam. She is an identity politics democrat who wants the US military to pay a trillion dollars reparation and then leave Guam. She calls navy and air force the mili-takee. I asked her if she really believed that if the US Navy and Air Force left if it would be 6 or 9 months until the PRC showed up claiming that Guam was traditional ancient Chinese fishing grounds?

Then you should refer her to the true story of Tienanmen Square where kindly Chinese troops used armor piercing rounds from real assault rifles and heavy machine guns on protesting Chinese students, by-standers, passers- by, bus riders, apartment dwellers, and news reporters for 72 hours continuously, then bulldozed the bodies into piles, ran over the piles with tracked vehicles until they became paste and jelly, set the pile on fire, and washed the remains down the sewers with fire hoses. Maybe 10,000 dead - no actual numbers available; known dead over 2,500. Kind, friendly, caring, helpful rural Chinese troops.
