The problem with leftist myths about Syria
Al Jazeera via Syrian Human Rights Observatory ^ | 20/03/2018 | Loubna Mrie

Why are voices on the left still justifying the Syrian regime’s indiscriminate bombardment of Eastern Ghouta?

As the death toll in the Damascus' suburb of Eastern Ghouta reached nearly 700 in two weeks and continues to rise, many so-called progressive voices continue to justify the carnage.

Many are dead convinced that the regime is fighting al-Qaeda in Eastern Ghouta, which is using civilians as human shields - hence the hundreds of dead are not really the regime's fault.

A great number of leftist in the West and the East have been buying into regime propaganda for years now. From Australian academic Tim Anderson, who’s claimed that Bashar al-Assad has not been involved in mass killings of civilians and was simply demonised by the imperial West to British and US journalists Robert Fisk and Seymour Hersh who have claimed the regime did not use chemical weapons in various attacks on civilians, leftist public figures continue to believe that the Assad dictatorship is a bastion of anti-imperialism in the region and needs to be supported.

Don't be fooled by the leftist myths about Syria, by those sympathizing with Putin and the others. The gal is absolutely correct.

She’s complaining that even the grassroots Left doesn’t buy “humanitarian” excuses for war anymore.

Wonder what she got in return for betraying her country?

It’s a civil war. My personal opinion is that we have as much business there as we do in Venezuela, or France or Germany had in the U.S. civil war.

The deal is done, the US has drawn lines in the sand, Trump has now said the bombs are coming. Short of saying he found a new culprit and said, we are re-targeting, he cannot blink. All the hand wringing is wasted breath at this point. Lets make sure we target deserving animals and make sure each missile counts. Too bad we can’t target and eliminate all armed groups on all sides, clean house. That’d be perfect solution. Then, coordinate to help the civilians pick up the pieces.

Russia is pushing for war with Russia.

They have golden opportunity to act adult with Trump at the helm, who has extended his arm — and they continue to blow it. And Syria is not even the worst of their little pet projects: the worst is the ridiculousness they’re continuing in Ukraine even *beyond* Crimea. Thousands of their own Slavic brothers and sisters dead in that conflict. And rising.

And their ruble and economy is tumbling down with it. And the only “friend” they have left that isn’t a backwards despotic regime the likes of Iran, North Korea, or Venezuela...is China.

Until Putin leaves, expect this. Blame him.

I count myself among a growing number of Americans who really don’t give a sh!t what Assad did or didn’t do.

I oppose removing Assad, as he did not use chemical weapons on his people years ago as Obama/McCain claimed. They wanted to assassinate him and let ISIS (REBELS) take over.

Assad is evil, yes. However he has no reason NOW to use chemicals either. Trump needs to be careful about bombing Syria, it isn’t time to do so.....there is better way. It is called STATEMENSHIP.

There ARE NO HOOORAYY’S HERE!

The fact that people are stupid enough to believe that Assad, who has the rebels on the ropes, would be stupid enough to do the one thing which would provoke world outrage and a response, is enough to wonder about the mentality of supposed “Conservatives”.

Why does one side have to be “good” and the other “bad”?

Bastard al-Asshat is an awful person.

Most of the Syrian “rebels” are islamist terrorists (i.e. awful people).

Why not let them kill each other?

Syria is not a Russian ‘pet project’. It is an ally of Russia and it is also home to Russia’s only naval base in the Mediterranean and therefore it is a strategic asset.

Russia has a long established and well defined national security interest in Syria and the Obama/McCain cabal that armed ISIS in the hope that ISIS would oust Assad threatened Russia’s national security.

I don’t have to agree with Russia, I don’t have to like Russia.

But I do have to recognize that a nuclear armed superpower is getting pissed off at us for killing their citizens in a country where we have no compelling national security interests.

President Trump needs to keep his promise and extract the USA from Obama’s War.

One of the most offensive things you can say to a Russian, especially born before 1990 is “Cold War is over.”

Know this from experience.

Syrian base, Crimea...not enough. Not the end game.

The agenda is wanting to avenge the fall of the Soviet Union. Options/Economic resources are limited so they are going to do whatever it takes to destabilize things in our path so that we take notice. Everything is designed to cross paths with us. If its not Syria, it will be something else. Please remember that.

They know nothing will escalate too much due to our fear of nuclear war.

So create just enough of a mess to catch us off guard to distract us from our own pressing agendas back home. Lest we forget big powerful Russia again!

Its childish, but thats how their leaders think especially.

So they tricked Assad into being an ally for the last 35 years and inviting them in to fight Al-Qaeda?
