Hungarian people want to 'stop Soros': PM Orban

BUDAPEST: Hungary's nationalist Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on Tuesday (Apr 10) that his resounding election win, challenged by the opposition, shows that voters want to stop US billionaire philanthropist George Soros interfering in the country.

However the largest opposition party has demanded that the National Elections Office investigate alleged irregularities in the conduct of Sunday's poll.

At a news conference with international media two days after cruising to his third straight term, Orban said his government had already drawn up a "Stop Soros" package of legislation.

"The reason we submitted this package before the elections is in order to allow the Hungarian voters to cast their vote knowing our intention on this," said Orban.

"This has happened and we believe we are mandated by this election to pass this law."

The election saw Orban's Fidesz party sweep the board with almost half the vote, giving it a two-thirds majority in parliament and a legislative free rein. Advertisement

One of his main campaign promises was to stop the "globalist elite" led by Soros and Brussels undermining Europe's security and Christian culture through mass Muslim immigration.

Well yeah. A lot of US folks agree. And of course some "civil society groups" are calling for an investigation. That's what they do when they don't get their way. Brussels ain't happy either.

Maybe Soros, John McCain and Trump government are going to plot a soft coup against PM Orban.

If the Hungarians don’t want Soros, it’s THEIR job to do away with him, one way or the other. The U.S. does not need to be dragged into that mess.

I honestly don’t know much about Hungary but given what you often post, Hungarian freedom/independence is NOT what you want. You simply want to replace pesky-Soros with psycho-Putin and hand Hungary over to the whims and fancies of Russian oligarch$.

They are two in the same: Soros and Putin. I don’t care if they hate each other. So did Hitler and Stalin.

Why pretend like you even care about the sovereignty of European countries? In the same way you hide behind the “Assad saves Christians” line as if you even care. Please.

Syria-Russia-Turkey-Iran is the most anti-Semitic war-mongery coalition axis of powers forged since the end of World War II and now you want to drag individual European countries down with them for a round 3?

No thanks.

I like Poland. They have their heads straight. Pro-Sovereignty AND Anti-Russia.

You mentioned Hitler and Stalin.

Good.

As far as I know, in WWII, America was on Stalin’s side.

We were engaged in the Cold War a whole lot longer. And just look at today. Little boy Putin still wishing he could play big bad enemy to America.

Great point GS_R.

Now if Hungary can change their tune a bit and take the entire Treaty of the 3 Seas Countries with them and essentially give the EU the Italian salute because I see anti-Soro's and all he brings with him as a stand against the EU then that is so much winning I can't even stand it....

Calm down, McCrazie.

here we are talking about Hungary.

I see, McCain has let you know Orban is Putin’s puppet.

You can regurgitate his words.
